  • And tonight, when I dream it will be

That the junkies spent all the drug money on

    Community gardens and collective housing

And the punk kids who moved in the ghetto

Have started meeting their neighbors besides the angry ones

    With the yards

That their friends and their dogs have been puking and shitting on

    And the anarchists have started

    Filling potholes, collecting garbage

To prove we don't need governments to do these things

And I'll wake up, burning Time's Square as we sing

"Throw your hands in the air 'cause property is robbery!"

  • As the Discordians say, "In five years, a complete stranger with your memories will inhabit your body. But don't fret; another five years and they'll be gone as well."

  • Good question. He was mostly lucid and coherent on our last phone call, but that was a few months ago. I never knew him that well, so it's difficult for me to gauge. I'll have to check in again.

  • So fun story. I knew a guy who was a teetotaler in high school. Dude didn't even drink coffee. We drifted apart for a few years and got back in touch. He decided to come and visit me. The night he shows up, he drinks 6 500ml beers in an hour and a half, gets weepy, and talks about wanting to strangle his sister. He was with me for almost two weeks.

  • Yeah, I tried to emphasize that it's not a super common thing. But it does bug me when it happens, and I was thinking about it today. I'm happy to hear you have figured out a way to be more comfortable in the world.

  • First off, I love your username. Secondly, you're right. It's a generalization. For the sake of clarity, I could have written it as, "Most neurotypical people don't learn masking to the extent that neurodiverse people generally need to, because the natural behaviour of neurotypical people is more readily accepted by their peers and society at large. Hence the moniker neurotypical."

The thing is, I don't really edit my blog posts. I just write a thing and hit publish. I thought the subject matter might interest some people in this community, so I shared the link. I didn't think about it very long. It is absolutely appropriate to call me out for a poorly-worded assertion, and I thank you for the feedback. I will keep it in mind going forward.

  • Autism @lemmy.world

So I wrote a blog post about the way neurotypical people will sometimes treat me like an alien being.

  • Thank you so much. You're my hero.

  • Who is this artist? Unless I'm mistaken, I've seen their work before.

  • Hey, man. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. That really sucks, and I genuinely hope you pull through. Unfortunately, this isn't really the best community for this sort of post. But if you want people to point you to resources that can help you, you'll need to give a little more info. What country are you in? If it's the US, what state? Maybe then, someone can point you to a relevant aid organization.

  • Neo-confucianism is a broad term for a loose collection of philosophical ideas influenced by or based on the writings of Confucius, the Chinese philosopher. It strongly influenced the development of Korean society, and it was the official state ideology at one point. It is still very prevalent, although not always expressed explicitly.

  • So I live in South Korea. The medical system here is heavily subsidized and socialized. This makes it very cheap and (mostly) accessible, but the downside is the bureaucracy that comes with that. It is also a very litigious culture, which makes it worse. Doctors here are extremely wary to prescribe anything too strong, and they communicate very little with the patients. It's just, "Trust me, I'm a doctor." And of course the neo-confucian mindset is also very strong here, with all the rigid hierarchy that comes with it.

  • The word 'normie' is just insulting. It implies a hierarchy of knowledge that I just don't accept.

  • Exactly. That second example infuriates me. Just give me something to troubleshoot, for fuck's sake.

  • I mean, for gen alpha, that's an intentional effect. Tech is becoming more and more obfuscated by design.

  • It's funny; I've been seeing these posts and comments recently. Pro-AI, similar vocabulary (The term Luddite seems to be quite popular with these folks - what's next? Decel?), all from fresh accounts. You're not fooling me, which is impressively incompetent of you.

  • My experience with the meds was that I felt pretty wired for the first few days, then it stabilized significantly as my body developed a tolerance. Hopefully she has a similar arc with it. Best of luck to both of you.

  • Yup. I'm pathetic over long distances. Even my family in New Zealand is ashamed of me.

  • I seem to have met my match. We are both telepathetic, it seems.

  • That's the spirit. With cooperation and a little bit of luck, we can reach unthinkable levels of disappointment.
