All aboard the LainTrain - We all love Lain!

  • I'm gonna be dead honest with you. The reason you think that high bodycount means that you're somehow fundamentally different as a person e.g. incapable of being a "housewife" is because you do not have a high bodycount yourself and its incomprehensible for you, when in reality it's really just not that big a deal.

No one with a high bodycount thinks of themselves as having a high bodycount. At one time all those people had a low bodycount and they were the same people then as they were after they had a high bodycount.

At most they're "sexually experienced", in gamer terms they're the people with 500 games in their steam library and to them the average person is kinda like the person who only plays F2P mobile gachas, so yeah they'll have higher standards but they also probably know what's good and what works.

None of this is inherently good or bad, it just is.

  • I hate nu-trek because beyond the obvious shitty writing, lack of an ensemble cast and true standalone episodes, extremely lame and cheap special effects and just the way it is made (legacy series fitting into a canon rather than actual new events i.e. ENT) - its just very apolitical, bland and not very woke at all. TNG, DS9, ENT - all had real hard hitting stuff to say, stuff thats more relevant now than ever, and is always timeless.

Disco has a nonbinary person just kinda be there, such enthralling commentary, wow! It's almost a self-parody y'know. Picard has the romulan refugee thing be kinda swept under the rug in favour of the ME3 synthetics vs organics vs giant space octopus doohickey plot, and then the 2nd season invents a new alternate universe that doesn't actually seem much different from the future picard itself portrays in the first season.

There will never he anything quite like 'Far Beyond The Stars' in Trek again, sadly. Nor will there be a 'Who Mourns for Morn' for that matter, now we mourn for trek.

That's okay by me though, All Good Things and all that, and especially so because For All Mankind took up the actual woke space sci-fi mantle, unsurprisingly so since it's made by Trek and Expanse alumni like RDM, Menosky, Okudas, Shankar etc.

  • And what exactly changed in the EU as a result? Can they now really resell games on Steam in the EU?

  • i mean its a bit of an improvement. If the US keeps sliding into authoritarianism and obviously sponsoring anti-european agitation we should probably stop feeding them money and data.

Mass asset sell-offs by these governments in the 80s to make boomers into petit bourgeoisie to flex on the soviets hasn't exactly left them flush with cash or assets.

On top of that, the boomers now in charge hardly have the political will to even try to build anything in-house with existing free and/or open source software because they're under the impression that privatization will work again because it did for them.

They can't or don't want to realize that the trick only works once and it inevitably creates an oligarchy that can and will outsizeably influence the country's politics, which inevitably leads to some guy who is able to ride a grievance wave during elections right into office where he becomes president, gathers enough influence from the oligarchs to purge the disloyals and consolidate power, creating a fascist state - a union of corporate and government power against the people like what happened in Russia and whats slowly happening in the US.

  • Can't believe someone downvoted this

  • my truth-claims?

  • I say this as i take my pharmaceutical mass-produced amphetamine, factory made plastic sheets lined with artificial hormones that maintain my estrogen exactly where it should be, put on my makeup, my clothes of perfect fit made by machines in asia consisting of synthetic fibers, take out my semiconductor magic device connected by radio waves, tap on it in an alphabet of a language i wasn't raised in, follow the instructions of the sights and colours of the organic light emitting diode god and head out onto concrete walkways lined with skyscrapers to get food from a market originating in a cuisine half a world away in a country I've never been, sold by a second gen immigrant who finds it a bit icky as she whispers in a tongue i do not know and never will, to pay with currency i earn pretending my job isn't pointless to other people with pointless jobs from the sanctity and warmth of my ex-office building renovation.

Meanwhile people in nature died of diarrhea and shit. Typhus. The anticiv rightoid chuds want us to die of preventable diseases. Steve Irwin was killed by a random Lovecraftian freak himself lol.

Modernity, technology is all good, nature is a canvas for humanity's hubris and it's a good thing it's mostly gone as a concern for us. Capitalism is the real problem.

  • They're not the ones who create stuff that produces the waste though

  • Yeah, my very former classmates seem bewildered when I mention books we read for GCSE Literature. My grades weren't good at all compared to said former classmates.

Its kind of shocking, do they just memorize stuff like robots for a few months then flush that memory?

I could never do that, if i learned something, I likely still at least remember learning it, snd if i didn't then i still remember not understanding it.

I can't hunker down and just memorize or somehow learn something without actually processing it and learning it proper, doesn't matter how important, but then again I was later diagnosed with ADHD.

  • Equal employment opportunity at Epstein island i guess

  • If you look at the yougov voting intention poll by age it becomes very obvious that predominantly young, online-informed people are actually voting Green, Lib Dem, Labour etc.

If you look at the elderly boomers, age 50-65 and 65+ then its all Reform and the Conservatives.

If you further look at where people get their information based on age, on which there are many reports including by yougov, you'll see that boomers get it much more from TV, tabloids, radio etc. At first i was confused at the radio bit but It makes sense - they own cars and listen to radio while in them.

The call is coming from inside the house. This is a transparent call to internet censorship to stop left-wing discourse about the Epstein alliance and their wars in the middle east that the establishment finds unpalatable and drive the young to believe in right-wing lies. Kremlin's own rolling internet blackouts in Russia won't be far behind this initiative for the UK and the think of the children types on here will fall for it hook line and sinker, probably support it as Lemmy goes away even.

  • Lol Nigel and his pals have had support since forever. The NF and the london race riots weren't all that long ago. Boomers didn't vanish since then.

  • I had those exact kinds of lessons in GCSE history in 2014. It didnt matter, when i spoke to my classmates years later about it as working adults reminiscing they looked at me bewildered that i remembered something like that, they didn't seem to recall whatsoever anything specific they learned at school, even though i was the one who was awful at school and had way worse grades.

  • And its not just online, the traditional media is increasingly untrustworthy too, Ofcom has absolutely failed to tackle everything from GBNews to the increasingly obvious mask off reform support coming out of the BBC etc.

  • And when you do get quite literally sick from it all, good luck finding care, you're SoL most places for physical health, and for mental don't even bother, all you're gonna get is more stress trying to do the seemingly impossible task of getting an appointment, and when you are one day crippled and bedridden in hospital corridor, the RAC concrete will at last put you out of your misery.

  • honestly half the people in this country look like they have fleas these days

  • Glad you're aware of your issue. So why do you keep projecting then? Is this like a cry for help?

  • Sorry you're so weak willed you can't even do that. I never implied that's all you should do.

  • Lashing out at the wrong people? Who's that exactly?

I blamed "govcorp" in my post, by which i meant the corporations, the capitalists who own them and the bastards that protect them and serve them in government run by and for the corporate scum in an increasingly fascistic manner, the corpos get data, state assets and cash, and govt gets money and cushy jobs.

Word might be a bit cheesy, but it's a good one for the increasingly clear apparatus emerging in our present day dystopia.

Who do you think i should be blaming? Immigrants? Trans people? Young people? Muslims? Because thats what the papers owned by the aforementioned 'govcorp' bastards would like you to think. Blame the weak. Blame the vulnerable. Blame anyone but them.

  • I was actually thinking of switching to iPhone because of how enshittified Android has gotten lately and how used apple stuff isnt that much more expensive anymore.

But no, fuck Apple. We have no laws here that require this shit, but im sure we will, if not on paper, then like this - with de-jure laws and compliance-in-advance from the corpos.

Same shit they pulled with energy drinks too and on the same shakey basis.

I will resist for as long as I can against any govcorp that pulls this shit. I'm not going to be handing out my ID just to use a computer or browse the internet, I'm not gonna verify jack or shit, whatever it takes. Internet anonimity must be sacrosanct. This is a red line for me and i am willing to forego whatever convenience or entertainment to avoid it.
