I'm interested in many things and I'm always side tracked by more things.

  • Basically the same here like I have 20GB at full speed and then slows down a lot. But at least Verizon requires a data plan with any smart phone. I'm only away from wifi maybe 4hrs a month, I only need call/text not data.

My understanding is call/text goes thru the internet now so they force the data plan.

  • We're talking billions of dollars, where is that spent? I'm no expert on the topic but I've yet to see any significant improvement from the massive amount of money the states and federal government takes from these companies. I would consider giving it back to the users who had their privacy broken would be the right move, for justice, but I have not heard that ever happening on scales like this. Redbull did like $15 gift cards for their issues with "Redbull gives you wings", but haven't seen that with big tech...I really hope you can provide more information and enlighten me.

There have been many millions of dollar fines over the years and many communities, roadways and overall infrastructure can be improved - which our taxes are supposed to pay for.

  • It's like the governments benefits over these big tech companies breaking the laws set by the government.

  • 502 Error but I look forward to checking it out, sounds like its quite an improved interface.

  • Me too

  • Great call-out! Probably because most over 500 can't allow exfiltration of data for security (banks, gov, corp secrets). From my understanding most, if not all, AI data sets are built from our data.

Google and OpenAI was caught (or opening saying) using web spiders for AI datasets, crawling public data from Wikipedia, Facebook, Reddit and more. Google even using data from Google Assistant and other opt-in data "to improve their products".

I haven't looked into Microsoft but they are also using OpenAI as they are a major investor for OpenAI.

  • 🤫 "It's not used in the wild...yet."

Also, made me think about how micosoft has applied this to their settings. The microsoft account settings are horrible.

  • -y

  • I swear, I paid those tolls!

  • Yeah, makes sense. Even if there was an option to buy the lifetime and download I would. But its a valid point it'd be too easy for people to share it then.

Thats why I think a licensing method would be best, like Threema has. You can download the app but can't use it without a license key. Even still, it would be a lot of work.

Just disappointed I can't support it, but its also my decision to not have the play store 🤷

  • I would not support uniting with those trolls in any way. I had not even looked at it beforehand. I agree that being divided sucks. But I think it's important to remember that there are still good people out there, even if we don't agree on everything. We need to find ways to come together and work towards a better future, even if it's not always easy.

If I create a social media account and identify as left-leaning, I am bombarded with extremist right-wing content. The opposite is true if I identify as right-leaning. This has ruined social media for me, which is why I immediately blocked the news and political communities on Lemmy.

I do not identify as either left-wing or right-wing. I share views that are generally considered to be down the middle. This is true for the majority of people I know, who used to be called independents but now undecided. I guess thats why when an entire group is called out, it rubs me the wrong way.

  • Interesting comments and opinions. I know that coming from a non-religious family, I was circumcised after birth because the doctors stated that it was better for hygiene. However, I got an infection (from the surgery) and spent 3 extra weeks in the hospital, nearly dying.

Thankfully, my following siblings were not put in that situation (and I had no long-term issues). And although I do believe that it is better for hygiene, it also takes the majority of nerves out.

Today, I believe that it should be an optional surgery or when medically required. In today's world, it is largely unnecessary.

  • I'm fresh to lemmy so know very little in relation. But put that way makes more sense. Group of known trolls who move one to another to degrade and break the network.

Isn't it possible to enable an automod feature for keywords or something across lemmy? I would image that would help.

  • Yeah, I don't blame you. It didn't take more than 20 seconds on the homepage for me to leave. Those posters are by far extremist, conspiracy nuts.

  • What makes it possible right wing and not just a troll farm? Sincerely curious why make the divide and note.

EDIT: I checked it out, I see the issue with Rammy. And yes, there is a lot of spam/hate fest, it's not that all right wings are extremist just as much as "left wing" isn't all extremist. We're all people in the end and imo we shouldn't let it divide everything further by labels and stereotyping.

  • Sweet, thanks for the info I'll check it out!

  • I'm sorry, I don't quite understand. For example, on 5Ghz Wi-fi I get about 490mb/s, with VPN I'm getting about 450mb/s. It's all strongly based on time of day but overall, if anything it's higher latency but the difference has not affected me. Even using ProtonVPN on mobile 4G/5G networks I haven't had loading issues, just more captcha requests making sure I'm not a bot but it's a good trade off.

    With VPN enabled:

With VPN enabled, using secured core server (still can stream YT, might buffer for a second at the start)

    With-out VPN enabled:

  • I'm sure @ProtonPrivacy@lemmy.world could give a full explanation. But my understanding is yes, it's stored in the cloud. It would have to be since it syncs with all signed in devices. Although, it's encrypted before it's sent, when it's traveling and on Protons servers. Then it's decrypted on device.

They actually have a pretty good article about the security model for Pass in particular, with some useful links too. https://proton.me/blog/proton-pass-security-model

  • Yeah, honestly i just turned it off to see the bots posts...at least for now its too spammy imo
