  • This is my main issue with the early FF games. The numerical fiddling makes it impossible for me to follow which one the conversation is even about.

  • I was never enthused about the game, but I definitely hated how investors wanted every game to be a mega-hit, and anything else meant it needed to be deleted. It’d be far more healthy to leave it running on life support and see if the community ever has it bounce back.

  • I never played the originals so this one was my childhood. I don’t envy writers having to start from the nonsensical end of MI2, but they did their best handwave; I didn’t even mind having not known it.

  • Is Avatar basically Far Cry 7? I never played it but wasn’t sure how fun it would feel to throw little wooden spears at giant armored mechs.

  • I adored Watch Dogs 2 because, in an era discovering “partial multiplayer”, in the case of Dark Souls, WD2 really refined that formula, even if it didn’t quite nail the rest the way people wanted. You would be randomly driving around and get an option to disrupt or assist someone else’s singleplayer game, without any loading screens.

I also admit I enjoy the way they promote stealth by making it the main way to keep things nonlethal, and stop bullets from flying. The series has an interesting bit of guidance against violent escalation; don’t escalate to guns against bad guys, and they likely won’t do the same to you. And thanks to all the hacker tools, an enemy that brings heavy artillery and turrets to a fist fight may find themselves facing their own weapons.

  • I’m surprised how much hate it got. I can barely think of any Star Wars games that give you a ship, full planet travel ability, and open world within those locations, letting you experience the vibe of Star Wars environments. Even if the fights were lack luster, that’s pretty impressive.

Some games come close, but prioritize fights (so Cal only sees a quarantined part of Coruscant filled with stormtroopers) or MMORPG design.

  • Pssspspspsspsss.

  • I believe there’s a connection between conscious minds that is not connected to the senses.

It originates off some legend that a large team of monks gathered to meditate and pray together on a given day. The city’s crime rate drastically fell on that day.

It sometimes seems to manifest in other stories, like family knowing immediately that something bad happened to a family member (before getting a call about it) or animal keepers having an emotional bond with their creatures without being able to communicate.

  • TIL Lune from Expedition 33 was insane

  • One reason I loved Ace Attorney, it at least got a few steps away from the “high school hero” tropes of everything else made in Japan.

They eventually retread that issue with Apollo and Athena, but they were there for a bit…

  • I think the unfortunate thing is, every country pretty much chooses one or more major world power to be their friend. If Cuba is not okay with the United States as their ally (and it’s reasonable, because we do some fucked up things to allies) then they’re going to pick something else.

Ukraine was guilty of the same thing. In WW2, they were sandwiched between Soviets and Nazis. In their case, they picked Nazi; but may have been unhappy about either choice.

  • Canadian transit inefficiency is why the famous urbanist channel NotJustBikes started his work and moved away from there.

  • I ride an ebike. Can someone explain the picture on the left? Is it some sort of tax booth for car ownership?

  • People were trying to make WoW killers for a while already. For a time, flip phone apps even tried to attach themselves to your monthly bill. I think if subscriptions could work, you’d see them still trying it.

  • This week, I planned a 4p game night, got several people to respond affirmatively on it. No one showed up.

Some people are just so brain-empty they can’t associate words to meaning. They just respond in expectation, assuming they should say “Yeah, I’ll be there!” and then perform no follow up with travel planning or calendar entries. That is how dumb this generation is.

  • One of few fighting games I bought, mainly because Phoenix Wright was in it. (Way back on PS3)

A bit of an early introduction to how motion controls would serve as a hard barrier to doing cool stuff.

  • I don’t think it was purely copyright protection. While some other works feature SH (one involves the author’s Mary Sue being married to him), they usually show him as a cunning detective. This one is very unflattering of him, having Naruhodo constantly correct his dorky, inane predictions. Even if they wouldn’t technically have a case, the Doyle estate might act in a retaliatory way to them as they have done in some prior occasions.

At the end of the game, it’s revealed Sholmes is really very clever, but acts in a foolish way to help inspire Naruhodo’s investigative confidence. Still, this doesn’t affect the marketing and brand impression much since it’s revealed so late.

  • Sounds neat; I just wish they made an SKU where you didn’t have to pay for Windows (before removing it)

  • Might be a fun place to post it, I had an idea for a manga:

A guy gets a date offer from a cute girl. He goes, but she never shows up. After hearing out a very vague apology, he accepts the offer for another date, and even then, she’s late and very apologetic.

Eventually, our hero pieces together that the mysterious urban legend of a heroic magical girl, who beats bad guys and disappears to nowhere, is in fact the girl that had been trying to meet him for a date.

He doesn’t confront her about it, forseeing she wants to keep the identity secret, but he also works out that in the panic of a fight, she could use some guiding advice. So, he dons his own mask, pretending to have his own powers, in order to help her out; forever keeping the secret of knowing her secret from her.
