    But you are right, looks like I have a lot more to learn. I have only ever made a 1 layer of copper PWM speed controller because I guess I am not good enough to make 1 layer PCBs. Almost every design I have ever worked on would be physically impossible to use a 1 layer PCB simply due to the IC package pinouts literally not allowing it. They get around the via problem in your picture quite cleverly by using a dozen jumper wires as via+2nd copper layer. Plus there are no non-discrete ICs which helps a lot.

    I would love to know the supplier that Philips uses here, none of my suppliers were willing to do such hand-wiring-intensive work for anything less than a fortune.

    But I admit, you have proven me wrong in that was quite the exaggeration to say that "literally every part of electronics design" requires multi layer PCBs. Though I never meant to imply that people weren't engineers doing this. I was specifically addressing the response to OP because it was about SMD using a single sided board for SMD components and OP specifically talked about a replacement for sending boards to China or common PCB houses., but I reacted in way way too broad of statements which was wrong.

    There are thousands of write wound boards, hand wired boards, or projects like this guy which are very well done and well engineered projects. Wire-wound PCBs were the first GPS modules also, and they were 10x the engineers I could ever hope to be.

  • By all means share the designs of all of the 1 layer boards you claim! I said nothing about single sided boards, my claim was about vias.

    I would love to see "nearly every LCD monitor" that contains 0 vias! I would also love to see your SMPS designs that are 1 copper layer with no vias at all!

    Having all of the components on a single board side is something completely different, you can have a 16 layer board with 10k vias with components only one one side.

    Please, share all of these aerospace designs that use one single copper layer with 0 vias that isn't hand wired!

  • What people never seem to realize is that the most popular solar panel + inverter + battery configurations do not work when the grid goes down. Newer systems often have 1-2 outlets that are dedicated as "works with grid failure".

    This is by design so maintenance workers don't get electrocuted working on lines that are thought to be unpowered.

    You need special inverters with built in grid detection and independent frequency generation AND a switch between your meter and your house so that it will dynamically start/stop grid tying (or at least have a manual DPDT/DP4T high amp switch.

  • SUSE released a set of completely open source sans serif font for targeted at os-level fonts. It is a pretty good font and I started using it on many of my systems.

  • I mean, that won't really work. It dampens the signal, not eliminates it, and in order to block communications, you need a net width small enough to block 1/4 wavelength which is 5cm/4, so <1 cm holes with a material thick enough for the damping.

    That would be a net that weighs like 20kg lol and it would essentially be a solid cage at that point

    Not to mention that it would have to fully encompass them.

    Better to just use a signal jammer like they do for drones.

  • I would suggest first doing the basics first before diving in and trying to run cracked games. I had trouble and had to go through multiple troubleshooting steps to get DODI repacks working on windows even. the difference is there are a ton of resources of people spending hours and hours fixing broken cracked games on windows (dodi Hogwarts legacy has like 100+ threads on reddit with fixes) where Linux just isn't popular enough yet to have a big community find fixes for your cracked games for you already and the fixes from windows often don't work.

    First try browsers, steam games, streamimg, and light use while dual booting, you can still keep windows for the games that don't work on Linux.

    It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Just take it one step at a time. You are trying to reduce tracking. That is going to be 90% internet browsing, so if you already switch to Linux for that, you are much of the way there.

    This makes everyone's digital fingerprint linked on a government ID. Voila, now every person in America is known by Palantir and the government at all times (more or less). Great for genocide and targeting your political opponents and voters to set up sham elections.

  • It is always great to warn people against bad European companies too. We have plenty of people and companies who are as bad or worse than in the US.

    Nestle is objectively one of if not the worst companies in the world apparently devoted to almost exclusively doing evil. Spotify is also terrible, Unilever had done some bad shit apparently, our many of our auto companies are also not good, etc... Many of our companies would literally kill to get American labor laws here and have spent billions Union busting and lobbying/bribing against workers.

  • Yeah, I am no fan of proton and they have lied before (no log VPN logs magically finding logs for authorities and then later removing the no-log claim).

  • Which is still all due to investors not looking longer than 2 years since all of the crashing companies except Northvolt are startups. Lithium prices will always rise again at a much much higher rate than sodium.

    Sodium was always better for grid storage due to temperature charging and discharging and still plenty cheaper than Lithium Iron Phosphate that it is a replacement for.
