  • Snapmaker seems to be Bambu from a few years ago, promises, good hardware, but all proprietary and as locked down as possible hatdware-wise. I am fairly confident they will follow a similar path even though they have made some software source - available.

  • The only 2 tasks that have been worth automating for me on my phone is time-based volume/vibration switching and VPN turn-on and off when I am on home internet or away.

No need to steal people's water to do it.

  • Holy shit is Unvanquished a remake of the old Tremulous game? I used to love it. It has now been kept updated on github

  • Yes, but 90% of ISP supplied modems around the world are modem + router + WiFi access point with a unified firmware.

You also can't take the antennas off of those and they are required in order to receive internet.

Yes you can use your own router (I have a Unifi cloud gateway ultra myself and one access point in the middle of the house), but that doesn't mean that disabling the WiFi on the ISP web-software bullshit actually disables the WiFi and doesn't just hide the SSID and make it un-connectable and still use it for this kind of thing and identifying nearby devices.

It also doesn't mean that all the routers themselves like my Unifi aren't using the access points to do the exact same thing (or will in the future). The only way you can actually control that is with openwrt or similar.

  • Do you think every country has its own router hardware manufacturer and commodity chip manufacturer? 😂

The 2 giants that make 95% of consumer routers around the world and the few companies that design the chips for them are both in heavy surveillance states.

  • I think it really depends. People literally have significantly less time than they did in 2005 when WoW got big. People have to work longer or multiple jobs just to pay sky high rent and mortgage prices with long, stagnated wages.

I get wanting to bring back the nostalgia of a bygone era but these community mmo's where they were very social were a gigantic time sink that most people simply can't do now.

  • That is just the normally enshittifcation process. Many enshittified companies started as genuinely innovative or decent companies. I mean, they went into ads quite early on and tacking, but other than that...

    They definitely haven't unenshittified.

  • Hell, I find the easiest workflow for me is literally on one computer:

    • scan with skanpage
    • save
    • drag/upload via web UI to paperless server

Then you automatically have a 2 location backup (and 3 with 1 off site if you have a backup server implemented) and it is very simple for family to pick up.

  • Hollow earth? What sort of new-age conspiracy is that? True believers know the earth is a turtle.

  • Oh no, mullvad started advertising a bit 😱

    Only print ads though IIRC

  • Hmm.Everything regarding the future is a hypothesis. It is impossible to be anything else. Climate change is a hypothesis. Climate catastrophe and ecosystem collapse is a hypothesis, but it has been modeled and simulated thousands of times over.

If one discounts all very likely occurances because they are "just a hypothesis" then there is literal no planning for the future and we can just burn coal because coal's future of causing rampant cancer and other health problems is a hypothesis and running out of fossil fuels js a hypothesis.

  • While that may be true, it really has to be thought about more in terms of relative harm instead of absolute harm:

    • biodiversity without simply shoving as many wind turbines, batteries, etc... Every where possible to change over every bit of energy possible will result in the destruction of the biodiversity because the climate is completely thrown off

    • mass migration from climates now unsuitable for humans will likely cause huge destruction of biodiversity in the same areas trying to accommodate so many more humans

    • As food shortages increase from global climate change, governments will probably not hesitate to destroy those biodiversity hotspots to try to grow more food for a hungry population

If putting a windmill destroys 10% of the environment around it, it is absolutely preferable if it helps prevent the 90% destruction in the near future.

  • Known liar too.

Pledged to donate a ton of money to climate change organizations. As of tracking it until 2 years ago, he had actually donated only 3% of the pledge.

  • In my village we have a quality hat store. Most are handmade and >100€. I am not a hat person but if I wanted to become one, it would be a huge investment 😅

  • all of it is about the UK except for a very short comparison at the end....

  • VPNs are to protect you against your ISP, that is about it. I guess sailing the high seas also since fingerprinting doesn't apply as much. Also getting around authoritarian government blocks.

It is a small piece of the puzzle.

  • That is exactly how they want it to work.

They don't give a flying shit about children. Otherwise they would arrest the literal thousands of known, active child predators. Hell, one of the most powerful people in the country is a confirmed child abuser and child rapist and they gave him a ton of money and he is walking around free.

This is just a surveillance framework for a fascist future they want. They arrest protestors against a genocide of a fascist regime and support pedophile child abusers. They are literally just having trials for people arrested protesting where the defense is not allowed to give any evidence and the jury is not allowed to know that the judge is secretly gluing on a "terrorism" charge after the jury comes to a conclusion and has to decide guilty with no available defense evidence and the all but direct instructions from the judge to convict.

Just like how they made not being fascist "terrorism" in America. It is all a ploy to set up AI surveillance to actually make fascism succeed this time and not be limited in control by manpower like before.

  • Wanted to setup opencloud but it doesn't work without 3-4 additional containers and CNAMEs on the domain.

I simply wanted to spin it up locally and test it out, but it doesn't accept any admin credentials whatsoever and wiping every file to completely restart leads to the same behavior.

If the simplest bit of startup flow local first time login doesn't work, then why would the rest and why would I trust it? Also it isn't a certificate error with not setting up SSL or something because I also tried it on my domain with all the correct certificates and got the exact same behavior. It doesn't even allow you to try a different admin password when it claims that the last is wrong. You get one try and otherwise have to wipe the entire volume.

There are issues on github for it and workarounds with very YMMV results, for me none of it worked.

  • Yeah but I would honestly think that a revolution of the people is worth some plagiarism if that is what tipped everything over the edge.

  • Except 99% of the time, the company bankrupts the person who invented it (or threatens to) and then buys it out from under them through financial coersion and then make millions or billions in profit while giving the person who spent years or decades of effort developing it less than 1% of its worth.
