  • It is not transactional. Trying to weigh something good against the realities of everyday life is not helpful for enjoying the good thing. You have to go through all those everyday things anyway. Best enjoy the things that are simply ejoyable.

  • Love for me. Nothing better in life than having mutual love be it romantic or friendship.

Also stories of all kinds are pretty great.

  • Someone I know who really drank the Russian propaganda kool aid keeps insisting that NATO in fact keeps provoking Russia into a war.

No matter how badly they might be doing with boots on the ground, they are readily winning the propaganda war. It is disheartening to see.

  • To the surprise of absolutely no one. What a god damn farce this was. Cannot wait for the day the scattered remains of MAGA tries to do the same with his bloated corpse.

  • They know what they're doing when it comes to funneling money into their own pockets, I agree here. But they'll do it in such a hamfisted way, that it will bring down the entire house of cards, because they don't understand or bother to understand the systems they're pilfering. Though, this might very well be part of what they want to accomplish anyway.

  • If Trump takes over the FED, the US economy will go into an absolute tailspin and depression. The only reason inflation has been sort of brought back under control is the FED. Trump has no fucking clue what he's doing on a monetary level and neither does any of his ghouls and cronies.

  • Which trade would make someone with inside knowledge the most money if this goes through? Asking for a friend.

  • I think that'd be a pretty dangerous proposition by now. Maybe someone is doing it but is now too afraid to do the switcheroo.

  • Finally. I feel like this is the first time they shot any down. So far they only observed in any NATO country. Hope they keep shutting them down from now on.

  • Microsoft is such a horrid company.

  • I know a few people who drink the right wing coolaid and hate renewables, but they also think China is a great place and outsmarting western democracies at every turn. Cognitive dissonance is a hell of a drug.

Good thing solar and other renewables are still going strong some placed at least.

  • EU already has this with the GDPR. Only limitation are retention periods required by law, like employee data needs to be kept for ten years in Germany for example, but for the duration whoever has the data must block it from being processed for anything but the legal requirment, as that becomes the legal basis for processing (storing in this case) and no other uses are allowed until deletion.

Only applies to EU citizens though plenty companies have implemented straightforward ways to delete an account for everyone.

  • This AR obsession is utterly baffling to me. There are so few real applications and the hardware requirements are insane so it's not something that will get widely adapted anyway. Sure in a decade or so it might have matured enough to have shed all these issues, but AR/VR feels like a really out of touch thing to prusue, especially if you look at the garbage ideas they have on how to use it - virtual meetings??

I get movies and games on these, possibly even some recording and porn, but these are not their B2B wet dreams anyway.

  • "Dopamine Nation" is a good book on this whole issue. I really wonder how much the dead internet theory might play a role in eventually breaking this cycle, or just younger generations being contrarian to older generations.

  • Completely mind boggling what's going on there. The amount of work to be put in to fix all this is enormous. I truly wish everyone involved nerves of steel and the best of luck.

  • Good.

  • Thank you, appreciate it! Added the link to the body of it, too.

  • Hey, I don't quite understand your point. It's entirely about the process and thoughts around migrating to Linux from the point of view of someone who has never attempted it. It's about adaptation. If it does not fit the sub, I do apologize for crossposting here and will not do so in the future.
