Here's where I'd put my pronouns IF I HAD ANY

  • The comic references the way Superman seems to rewind time at the end of the 1978 Christopher Reeve movie. In the the film, Superman flies fairly high above the earth, accelerating faster and faster until he travels back in time. The way this is depicted shows the earth's rotation slowing down, and eventually rotating backwards. A common misconception of the movie is that he is making the earth rotate backwards - he is not, he is just himself accelerating to faster than light speeds high above the atmosphere.

  • Soda is generally sold in 2L bottles here, with single liter bottles growing in popularity. Alcohol is usually sold by the ml, though in units like "fifth" and "handle."

    Milk though, milk is sold in half-pints (not sure why they don't write cup), pints, quarts, half-gallon, or gallon. I like to pretend a quart is a shrinkflated liter though.

  • My prior city ran a survey on whether they should build out fiber to the homes around the city, since they were building their own fiber infrastructure anyway. Despite the city saying it would be cheaper and faster than the existing 0 or 1 options people had, my fellow residents cried communism and the city government scrapped the idea. Infuriating.

  • Yes, and there's actually some interesting results from this too. Pain medicine marketed as targeting specific pains, such as headaches or toothaches, are often just generic ibuprofen or acetaminophen, but there is some evidence that the pain medicine will be more effective if you believe it is targeting your specific pain. So whenever my wife wants an Advil I always tell her that it's a special Advil that is for whatever specific thing she complained about.
