I am having a tidy up of Communities/etc so quite a few will go. There'll be some warning, but it will be done before August.

  • So, apart from that, how was the play Mrs Lincoln?

  • It would probably need quite a large breaking strain, and would have to be quite long so a dozen or so people can push it and pull it from side to side.

    I also may be putting a lot of thought into this. But I have considered storming the gates of Heaven quite often, then realised St Peter would probably stop me and (as a result) have thought about going into Heaven through the back passage. Because taking God from behind seems like the best thing to do.

    I'd been to university and finished university and got a job by the time Part 1 was released, so...... yeah. I watched them but kind of lost track after Part 1.

  • My guess is that the American election in 2016 triggered a much larger wave of anti-trans activity on the web, and she picked up on it, which is why it started then.

    Also the last book was released in 2007, and the last film in 2011, and while she is an insane, bigoted, batshit crazy horrible witch of a woman, she isn't stupid. There's no way she was going to start a crusade like this while people were still flocking to read the books and go to the cinema - she's wait until the audiences had died down and the reading figures had dropped.

  • I was just point out that there is a difference between fiction and the real world.

    In fiction there are people who are bad. They are just BAD and will be bad. They will never be good.

    Jadis - in the Narnia stories - is (quite literally) the embodiment of evil. That is her role in the story. Her entire role is set up as the opposite of Aslan who is (quite literally) The Jesus figure, so clearly, she is not going to be a good person. Every act she does, every move she makes, ever decision that she takes is bad.

    I am aware the real world is not like that, but that's why we have fiction - so characters can be created that are NOT real.

    I would also refer you to Oscar Wilde and his opinion on fiction (The Importance of Being Earnest).

  • I am kind of making a career over pissing people off in regard to the author of Harry Potter - I got banned from one site (that was kind of hilarious), and I've got in to debates on tumblr over whether writing HP fanfiction is still an acceptable pass-time. (I say it is, various people say it isn't).

    Don't think for a minute I support, endorse or condone her stance, but I just have..... a differing opinion on certain aspects of this debate, and I am not shy about making them known :)

    And she turned people who disagreed with her to stone.

    I think most people - liberal and conservative and moderates - would agree that makes her bad.

  • I'll bet somewhere out there there are internet posts that say Sir Jimmy Savile is a good man who does great charity work, that Prince Andrew is a good and decent man and Joss Whedon is a genius.

  • See - that I understand. It's when ........ hold on. Let me give you an example.

    "One day Susan the bold was slaughtering demons, and she encountered Mary the wise"

    (Two chapters later)

    "Snifflepug the merry was drinking wine and killing moose. She then did something heroic and snarky. But then she was killed. And people mourned the loss of Snifflepug"

    (One chapter later)

    "Albert came to town, and learned that Susan had died.........." and it's then you learn that Susan and Snifflepug are THE SAME BUGGERING PERSON!!!!!

    I don't mind people changing names, but could he not say "Snifflepug (who was also named Susan) was drinking wine" or something like that?? I mean is it that hard when you introduce a character by a new name to at least say "Oh - by the way - this character? It's the same one who I've been talking about FOR HALF THE BLOODY BOOK!!!"

    Don't get me wrong - it is one of the most impressive books I have read and I am in awe. This is just the one minor thing that bugs me every time :)

  • I hate to admit but I've read it.... three times (read the actual book once and listened to the audiobook twice).

    I do a lot of driving in my life.

    Every time I read it my one abiding thought is "what's with the names? Why can't someone have one name and keep that name and always have the SAME BUGGERING NAME for the love of god?" because really - it's the part that always confuses me :)

  • Bella forces The Cullens to respect the werewolves (their natural enemies), she forces The Cullens to accept her child and when The Volturi come for them she doesn't flee, she instead says "screw them - we are going to defend my child and defend me" and she gathers an ARMY to stand up to them.

    She believes in the right of the minority to exist and she fights for it.

  • With all due respect to your opinion, you should pay attention to the entire post, including the date-stamp of when it was posted.

    Because there is a chance the person who wrote it might well agree with you but might not have been able to see the future when they wrote it ELEVEN GORRAM YEARS AGO.

  • It was more of a "what did he give her at their wedding" type of question, because I understand the symbolism of being Luthien, which is awesome, but hard to put on your wife's finger during a religious ceremony :)

    Which, I guess, could be said of a book as well........
