    • Netanyahu doesn't need to adhere to the jewish religious practices and laws to be an ethnic jew, many jews are completely irreligious, would you deny them their jewdom?

  • What, like our mouth and entire digestive tract? Or bellybutton? Or genitals? Yeah no. A single hole is perfectly symmetrical, not to mention that there were and are asymmetrical animals as well as those that are not left-right but radially symmetrical (for example jellyfish). The only reason is, our nose holes used to be on opposite sides of our heads and only relatively recently evolved to be close together.

    In the earliest vertebrates, there was only one nostril and olfactory pouch, and the nasal passage was connected to the hypophysis. The same anatomy is observed in the most primitive living vertebrates, the lampreys and hagfish. In gnathostome ancestors, the olfactory apparatus gradually became paired (presumably to allow sense of direction of smells), and freeing the midline from the nasal passage allowed evolution of jaws.

    The real reason is, that at some point our ancestors developed directional smelling and needed two holes, one for left, one for right... and since you cannot evolve out of your ancestry, that trait stuck around.

  • Human fusion technology currently only works with heavy hydrogen isotopes (deuterium and tritium in neutronic fusion). Fusion of normal hydrogen requires pressures and temperatures we're unable to control at the moment.

    Aneutronic fusion is currently explored in fusing hydrogen and bor, this results in clean helium-4 and no neutron radiation, meaning it leaves no radioactive waste. But it needs temperatures FAR exceeding the core of the sun and it's self-cooling via Bremsstrahlung, so it's nowhere near a working technology.

    I dunno American Identity sometimes seems more real outside the US.There's the fact that we constantly tell americans who don't speak a word of german or french that they are neither, they are american to us, no matter where their great-great-grandparents were from.And then there is the time when an aquaintance of mine one day seemed very happy and I asked him why he was so chipper. He said he'd figured out that over here, he wasn't "african american", he was just seen as "the american" and that had never happened at home. Yes he clearly was recognized as black, but it never once came up as a qualifier on his identity.

  • Oh absolutely, Camus can be soul-crushing if you believe that hope and reason are an innate part of the universe, let me quote Wikipedia:
