  • This 👆🏻 Fairphone 6 is awesome! Coming from a guy who has only used iPhones before.

  • This reminds me of the time when I met a British girl during my backpacking days in Australia. She got very upset every time anyone called her Sarah (American accent), because her name was Saaaarah (long first vowel). Everyone around her did their best to accommodate her. But it never even crossed her mind that all of us intentionally pronounced our own names in a very English friendly way, to make it easier for her as an English native speaker to address us 🤦🏻‍♂️

I always present myself with a pronunciation that is easier to pronounce in English. Saying my name as my mother calls me is just weird and strange when you say it in the middle of an English sentence. And likewise, I think it's strange of people to assume that I should be using sounds that don't exist in my native language to pronounce their name, if that is the language we're speaking together.

  • I came from iPhone 11 pro. Honestly, I can't really come up with anything that I miss right now. The switch to android took a bit of time to get used to but it was surprisingly easy actually. And I started my degoogling journey BEFORE switching phones, which really made it easier for me.

Hmm, I get your point. But as far as I understand, all the data that these apps are using come from the openstreetmaps database. So the reviews from Mapy ARE separate from the map. I love having them in the same app though, because it's just so convenient.

  • Mapy is the only one that I've found where you can rate places, like restaurants. That's one of the features that I'm missing the most with these other alternatives.

  • I've made almost the exact same switches as you. I also got the Fairphone 6 with e/OS and I'm loving it.

I'm using a mix of CoMaps and HereWeGo instead of Google Maps, and I love walking around using StreetComplete to help update the openstreetmaps. It's way more fun than pokemon go 😜

My biggest wish would be for CoMaps and Mapy.com to unite to make one, awesome Google Maps alternative, including the possibility of rating places like Mapy.com is doing.

  • I speak multiple languages, but always try to speak the language(s) that include the most people in the room. I find it very offensive when people near me speak a language that most people don't understand, when they could have easily switched to another one, and I would never do that myself.

  • Never heard of him before. Now I've learned that he seemed like a really horrible person...

  • Linux is the way!

  • This sounds like a bunch of b***shit so I had to look it up. Seems like you're actually right... 😳

  • Sweden’s cumulative excess mortality over the full pandemic period was among the lowest in Europe. Jealous much? 😘

  • Yes, I AM speaking from privilege. And I for one want to keep the privilege of living in a civilised, democratic country where everyone is allowed to speak their mind, regardless of how stupid it is. No politician should ever be threatened and attacked this way. Ever. Trying to silence politicians in a democratic country equals attacking the democracy itself. It is an extremely dangerous path to follow, and can never become normalised. From any side of a conflict.

And again, I have not said anything about what I think about this particular minister, or his views on the genocide in Gaza, only about the way he was treated by anonymous, aggressive people, trying to scare and silence him.

  • Are you entirely sure that you wouldn't have felt threatened in a situation like that? He was on his way home, possibly to his partner and children.

To me, this is clearly a threat to our democracy, where loud and aggressive people are trying to frighten politicians with other opinions than their own. And mind you, I have never told you my opinion on the situation in Gaza, only that this is NOT the right way to make a difference.

  • For me it's the reviews that I'm missing the most. Mapy.com has reviews so I've been starting using that, CoMaps for saving my favorite/want to go/etc places, and HereWeGo for navigation by car. I wish those three would combine as a perfect alternate too Google Maps.

  • I'm so happy I'm not gen z because that makes no sense whatsoever 😂🧔🏻‍♂️👴🏻

  • What does that even mean? 😳

  • What? Why would anyone use a crying emoji as a laughing emoji when there are so many different laughing emojis to choose from? I'm starting to feel old...

  • Thanks for the tip! I can't find such a setting. Do you find it in the general settings app somewhere?
