Worked several jobs, including in a nursing home. Got thyroid cancer and the treatment caused me to have a stroke and many other health issues. Thanks to the stroke I'm now partially sighted, can't walk properly and can no longer work. Also have chronic foot infections and migraines. NHS treatment is so awful it has made my health worse rather than better. My local pharmacist tells me I'm a drain on the NHS because my medications cost so much. Still waiting for my disability benefit backpay and still desperately struggling financially.

  • I've gone through long periods of hunger in my life. Starved for so long as a child i got a malnutrition related cancer. Been so hungry as an adult I've resorted to stealing from supermarkets and begging. And i still don't think I could bring myself to eat this. 🤢

  • I imagine Hitler in hell like he was in Little Nicky, wearing a French maid's outfit, having pineapples shoved up his bum for eternity.

  • If it's a fairly quick and painless death, I welcome it. Life is just too shit.

  • This reminds me of a thread on reddit where they were saying that people on disability benefits should be given just enough for basic shelter, and the most basic food to keep them alive. No entertainment, no extras. I was thinking, I'm so disabled I'm virtually housebound. Am I meant to sit here alone, staring at the empty wall, bored out of my mind, all day every day until I die? Why even keep us alive then?

  • A rented apartment that's so small the living room and bedroom are the same small room, with a tiny bathroom and kitchen.

  • I live in the UK and I can't imagine anyone here being able to afford therapy for long. The NHS only gives you a few months, if that.

  • I live in a country with healthcare and if you want therapy it's 5 years on the waiting list to get 12 sessions of shit, useless therapy. You'd have to pay for real proper therapy (if there is such a thing) and hardly anyone can afford that.

The average redditor seems so extremely over privileged.

  • I feel the same way. And the only help on offer from the authorities is: "Be on the waiting list for 5 years for a 3 month course of shitty therapy that involves drawing pictures and meditating. What do you mean it didn't work? How are you not cured????"

I really think life has been made miserable by design.

  • Thank you. The entire NHS is like this. I have to see the endocrinologist, neurologist, stroke clinic, GP and others, and it's always endless difficulty and bureaucracy, struggling to get an appointment, being on waiting lists for years, I'm finally on the urology waiting list after begging to see a urologist for about a decade. This whole time I've had endless bladder problems and all the doctor wants to do is prescribe more and more drugs (all with terrible side effects) without even trying to find out what the problem actually is. And if I'd been given a proper programme of rehabilitation after my stroke I might not be disabled now. It also took them nearly 4 years to diagnose my cancer because they refused to do any tests, saying I was "too young for it to be anything serious." Not to mention having to beg for money to pay for bandages and things after my foot surgery. The NHS has ruined my life.

  • Thank you.

Student accommodation now so expensive that student flies to and from class rather than live at university.

  • It's just pure snobbery to insist everyone must have a top notch job and a degree. So many kids who aren't cut out for it get pushed and bullied into going to university by their parents and teachers, only to end up tens of thousands in debt with a useless bit of paper at the end of it. It's child grooming.

  • Everyone is just too exhausted from struggling to survive. It seems to be engineered to keep revolutionary activity down.

  • It's hard when most people are using all the effort they have just to survive from one day to the next. Which is probably why they make life so hard in the first place.

  • Not exactly by a Marxist, since Marxism didn't exist yet, but I like this poem:

They hang the man and flog the woman

Who steal the goose from off the common

But let the greater villain loose

Who steals the common from the goose.

Pet Shop Boys - Go West.

  • People really do treat being ill or disabled as a moral failure. When I was first diagnosed with cancer people were understanding and sympathetic for a short while, and then as i got sicker and sicker and eventually had to quit work and didn't go back, they just became judgmental and eventually drifted away and abandoned me. It really annoys me how whenever you meet someone the first question is always "So what do you do?" I would find myself trying to explain my health situation to justify why I wasn't doing anything work-wise. But I could always see the look in their eyes, I was now considered subhuman and no longer worth talking to. They'd look shocked and judgmental, then their eyes would glaze over and they'd drift away.
