AppImages don't go in Discover with all my other programs. They don't auto update, no review system, no way to cleanup the files they created when uninstalling, I have to manually add shortcuts to my app launcher. Also Flatseal is pretty cool.

I've tried Gear Lever, but in my experience it hasn't ever succeeded in updating an AppImage for me. And it's kind of awkward giving it an AppImage file so it can move the file, instead of the download and the installation being the same single action.

One thing a lot of people don't know about Flatpak is that you can get .flatpakref files like Kdenlive uses for their daily builds. Very cool!

for the sake of the existing player base, I just hope they don't add tons of stutters and nuke the system requirements into orbit

By making it an update, you ~~get~~ force most of them to continue playing the game.

Yea I love Flatpak. No dependency hell, works great in Discover, never need to pipe curl into bash for some huge installer script, it gives a little bit of safety with sandboxing, and you can even install/update without the admin password

I almost always favor it except for something more core to the system (web browser, Steam... that's about it lol)

I'm guessing the graphics will become marginally better, while the performance gets massively worse

I tried to export/import my user settings and subscriptions, but the import failed in voyager with a 400 error (I didn’t have the network tab open so I didn’t see the error message, and now I’m rated limited so I’ll have to wait to check again)

I try to separate the program from the programmer, PieFed is still good even if piefed.social is not

Lemmy is still good even if lemmy.ml is not

Alternatives to defederation are always good tools to have available

I kinda wish developers would not host their own flagship/open instance, but I know it makes testing and development much easier

I think maybe it would be better to just tweak the Hot algorithm slightly. Maybe either adjust the curve, or use max(age, 1 hour) in the calculation so that new content is not favored quite as hard, aka new content is scored as if it were an hour old.

But you could make a dedicated discussion post asking about this, so more people can see

People don't talk about this enough, Lemmy's "Hot" sort is kinda garbage lol. It leans too heavily towards new posts. Same thing with sorting comments by Hot. "Active" is more in-line with what Reddit users expect, or something like Top 6 Hours. I haven't tested Mbin's "Hot" much.

I remember a user on Reddit saying that Lemmy is dead because they looked at All+Hot and saw very few comments. On Lemmy right now I go to All+Hot and the front page posts mostly have 0 to 3 comments. All+Active is showing mostly posts with 50 to 200 comments. All+Top 6 Hours mostly has 5 to ~30 comments.
