  • How many have you seen recently?

  • That robin was supertame. He and his mate just kept having brood after brood because they knew all he had to do was look at me with his big eyes and I'd buy another kilo of worms. He used to chase his juveniles and even his mate away sometimes, he was a little savage. He got a respiratory illness and I didn't know you could take wild birds to the vet.

    I have the photos on my PC, for some reason the sd card on my phone always corrupts and so did the replacement, so I don't know if I got two fake cards or if it's just an android thing. I don't have that issue on my old android 6 tablet or my old android 2 phone 🤷🏽‍♀

  • Back when I was a kid, we had all these on our street except bullfinch, woodpecker and goldcrest.

    Over the years, all the lawns have been turned to patios, nearly all the trees have been cut down and with all the cats, I can't even feed what few birds we have left. So I don't think I've seen any birds this week :( I hear a few great tits churring and a couple of weeks ago there was a blackbird whose song sounded similar to the one of the tame one I used to have. He was killed by a psycho cat. His song had been passed down the generations on my street, it was the same song from when I was a kid. And it ended when that cat got him 😡

    I used to have a tame robin and great tit.

    Edit: looks like my SD card is corrupted again :(

  • Looked it up and yes, dreamstime is now hosting AI. It's crazy, why would you pay for an AI image when you can generate them elsewhere for free? Also afaik you can't copyright an AI image anyway.

  • Canada geese in my area are chill. I've been chased by an Egyptian goose in Hyde Park (I was filming at the time, but that video will never see the light of day). It's that one with the sticking out wing feather, it was there a year later, I wonder if it's still around? Have you seen their eyes? Proper Sith eyes. I've also been given a death stare by a greylag, because we were giving its juvenile scraps.

    But Canada geese, very polite birds, never had a problem with them.

  • I've tried that, it doesn't work. I must have a secret furnace in my room somewhere. Once it gets to about 9 or 10 am it's better with the window closed and the door open, since the hallway always feels a lot cooler. Eventually there'll be a breeze that will run from the north side of the house to my room and that will cool things down. In the meantime, a spray bottle and fan are my best friends for the next few days.

  • I didn't even get the usual evening breeze last two nights to cool my room down. I had to keep a wet sheet over my legs and I still felt hot. I've got foil on my windows and one of those car windscreen mylar things but since it's supposed to be flush with the windows and I have those annoying upvc monstrosities I wonder if it's not just trapping heat instead. For some reason the hot air really wants to stay in my room. Even with the door open and a through current to the front of the house which is north facing. There's a big difference in heat the moment you step through my doorway 😭😭

  • Yeah I get that. Apart from the soya milk which was this year, the price rises were not long after Ukraine. So in a short time, my food costs doubled, but my income did not. Even at the time they were saying a number that was a lot lower than the 50% or more that I was experiencing per item.

  • Food inflation low? My food costs have doubled. I could do a weekly shop far under a fiver even during lockdown. Then Ukraine got invaded by Russia and most of the things I buy have gone up by 40% or more. Broccoli and soya milk used to be 50p in Tesco. Now 79p. Frozen chips were 89p for a 1.5kg bag. Same bag now £1.69. Frozen sweetcorn was 95p a kilo, now £1.50. Even the cheap tesco soap doubled in price. My wages didn't double in the meantime.

  • Exactly. One of the first things you learn when you switch to a plant based diet is to be mindful you're getting enough B12 and D.

    My B12 was fine, whereas my omni family had low levels and my grandma needed injections due to her age. My D was low, but my omni family had very low levels. Bad diets are bad diets, whether they include animal products or not.
