  • If you want to host multiple things on that server I would suggest installing Proxmox VE. It's Debian with everything necessary to create and manage containers and VMs. Everything is accessed from a Web interface and it's super easy to access the terminals for the containers or use remote desktop for VMs you create.

The latest version added the ability to install docker images directly into Proxmox without needing Docker but if you prefer to use Docker then you can install Docker in a container and install your things in there.

Here's a nice script to run afterwards to remove subscription nagging, remove enterprise repos that require subscription and add community repos.

    https://community-scripts.org/scripts/post-pve-install

That site also has lots of amazing scripts to install and configure self-host projects!

A good project to try is Pelican if you want to have an easy way to create and manage game servers. It's very simple to get the game servers up and running once Pelican is configured properly.

  • Does abandoning steaming/live services and starting with self-hosting count?

  • A great deal of non-deck verified games also work out of the box. ProtonDB has good information about how well something will run on Linux.

  • Sounds more like a fascist to me. "The enemy is both strong and weak".

  • Why do we even need a remake of the old movies? The movies are still holding up very well in this day and age. Why couldn't they focus on some other story? Expand the universe a little. Hogwarts is not the only magic school that exists...

  • I have heard that "The Expanse" is a very good book series. Tho I haven't watched the series or read the books.

Three Body Problem is a great tv-series that are also based on books. If I recall correctly the author of Three Body Problem won the sci-fi award when he released that book.

  • In California they require date of birth IIRC but some other state requires an age bracket. From a technical standpoint asking for an age bracket is removed. It requires maintenance and also actions from the user. How will the system know when you become an adult? Should I keep nagging you every year asking if you are now over 18? Give it a date of birth and it's set and forget.

That said, I don't like where we are headed with surveillance of citizens and I think it would be a lot better to handle date of birth on the websites you use rather than your whole operating system. It's Metas responsibility to make sure their users are not underage. It's not our responsibility.

  • I am playing it right now and I can also recommend Tale of Two Wastelands!

I just finished up the main story and DLCs in Fallout 3 and just got to New Vegas. This is my first time playing any of those games.

Limo works great as a Mod Organizer replacement on Linux

  • Instead of paying monthly for a VPS you could get a mini PC from eBay for 100 dollars and host it yourself

  • I would argue the police in America are way too aggressive. People have a right to protest

  • And when the people with the ability to reinstall an OS have all switched to Linux then the others will follow. I have already switched two laptops from Windows to Linux in my close family and they have had no complaints about it.

  • They tried this shit with Stadia. What would be the difference now that we also have AI? There is no reason to stream a shitty AAA game from a shitty company when you can buy and play indie hits on your own hardware.

I know the capitalists really want game streaming to be the future but every gamer with some common sense will reject that idea.

  • I saw an affinity Linux installer a few weeks ago. Maybe it works to install affinity. Photoshop is also compatible with Wine now. They got the installer working recently

  • There are also Swedish communities that speak old Swedish from 100 years ago. It's super interesting to see your old roots in another country. If I recall correctly the Swedes are located in Minnesota

  • Have you reported the crashing issue to the developers of pipewire?

  • I came here for Futurama!

  • Wow, she got rabies from just a scratch? I didn't know that was possible.

I got bit by a cat once while on holiday in another country. I was traveling home two days later and when I got home I immediately got antibodies and several vaccinations against rabies. Now if I get bitten (or even scratched 😬) I just need to take a booster shot. It feels nice to at least have some protection for the future.

  • The government has nothing to do with this. It's organized by a Union. We have a lot of strong unions here.
