  • I certainly agree this does not address the root issue, and it does normalize this technology for adresssing social issues and can then be applied to places where its more harmful like crime- And also I think taken on its own merits this is a good intervention to exist for suicide prevention specifically (though I think its valid to not take it purely on its own merits if one is concerned about the adoption of surveillance tech)

    I do want structural solutions though. But that requires rebuilding society in the image of treating humans better, better work and environmental conditions, rethinking healthcare (at least here in the US, no idea how things are in Korea), and about a million other things

    And I do think the normalization of surveillance infrastructure should be taken seriously. Especially with the present global rise of authoritarianism

    Thats a really hard situation to be in. I'm also really struggling to adapt to functioning in this world, it's a really hard place to be. I think two things can be true. Its valid for them to be upset that you weren't cleaning and whatnot around the appointment. And at the same time, that doesn't make you a bad person. Sometimes when you're unwell, you struggle to handle your responsibilities.

    That doesnt make you a bad person, it makes you unwell and struggling to handle your responsibilities. Regardless of whether they're understandably frustrated with the situation.

  • Here's my small collection lol, I use all of them at the same time every day cause I have very little access to sunlight and theyre used to treat my sleep disorder. Behind the smaller lamps is also a pair of light therapy glasses

    Some things worth knowing: they can trigger manic episodes in folks with bipolar disorder, and won't produce vitamin d like the sun, as they shouldn't emit any UV, so if you have a vitamin D deficiency you'll still need a supplement or sunlight. And you need to sit within the correct distance from them for them to work properly, it will vary depending on the lamp and a decent lamp should tell you that distance in the user guide/manual

    Try not to use them too late in the day, as that can screw with your sleep- if you dont have my sleep disorder you should be okay to just go by when the sun is up or has set, as a guideline for it being too late

    Carex makes the nicest ones I've used by far (thats what the big one in my pic is, though an older model, they have nicer ones out now). There are some other brands that make less expensive ones, but they may not be as bright or have as ideal of a light spectrum. If you have any questions feel free to ask, I'm not an expert but my condition has necessitated learning a lot about these things

  • Forgot to reply lol. The local kink community has social events often on a schedule I can participate in, and its mostly just queer neurodivergent nerdy folks, so thats been my big community connection so far, and has been really good for me.

    I just recently started going to my normal event again after a weird stint on a daytime schedule. It was lovely to see and catch up with folks again, and I ended up making plans to go work on a car with a friend I sometimes see at that event. It was a blast and we replaced a starter motor which was super cool ☺️

    I'd really like to have more opportunities to engage with community though, so I'm hoping to find more ways to feel connected :)

  • I mean, I'm not a big fan of the carsal justice system, I don't think sending this 80 year old woman to die in prison will somehow bring back the dead, but not taking away her license is kinda unreal

    A no contest rather than guilty pleas and moving assets feel like they may be things she was advised to do by her lawyer but do feel additionally gross.

    The culmination of it all definitely does not feel like justice. Though people in the comments here calling for her to die in prison probably ought to do some self reflection on how much they've bought into the notion that harming those who have done wrong somehow makes society or victims better off. Our criminal justice system sucks ass, institutional retribution has never been "justice" either.

    What a fucking depressing story and miscarriage of justice.

  • While that's true I don't think Bernie is trying to say every district, he's disagreeing with the broader notion from entrenched Democrats that these are outliers that can't be replicated and that the Democratic party needs to stay moderate (neoliberal) to win. The article lists a couple more races where we could see this pattern of more progressive candidates winning continue

Janet Mills in polls ahead of the June primary and raised three times as much as Mills and Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) combined in small donations in the final quarter of 2025; and North Carolina, where Durham County Commissioner Nida Allam is challenging Rep. Valerie Foushee for a second time after losing a close race in 2022.

    (Nida Allam is up for vote where I am I believe. While Foushee hasn't been a bad representative I'm excited to do more research on Allam and think I may be voting for her :)
