  • Nothing yet. This was posted on May 7th:

    Replenishment of inventory will vary from region to region. We will start fulfilling reservations next week in the US / Canada, and UK / EU / AU in the following weeks.

    So I'm guessing those of us outside North America will have to wait a while...

  • Between LineageOS and /e/OS which one would you pick for the combo degoogling, privacy improvements, and dailydriving?

  • I can't really compare them because I've not used LineageOS, but I got a Fairphone Gen6 with /e/OS a few weeks ago and it's better than I expected.

    One of the problems with custom roms is you have to unlock the bootloader to install them which can then prevent some apps from working. I didn't have a problem with that because the phone came with /e/OS pre-installed with the bootloader locked. Depending on what you need the phone to do it might be worth considering. It gets quite frequent updates.

    The main issue I had with /e/OS was the launcher was too basic for my needs. However, this was easily fixed by just installing a different one. Most of the default apps are good enough that I haven't needed to find a replacement for them.

  • Hmm... I might have to look into the WhatsApp issue as I still need it for work, friends and family (not my choice). Do you think it makes any difference if the bootloader is still locked? I think /e/OS devices from FP come locked.

    Anyway, my point is it's good that this kind of stuff is starting to get into mainstream media, even if they don't go into as much detail as they could.

    They might not have wanted to scare people off by giving them too much information all at once, especially things like the Fediverse which even lots of tech savvy people don't really understand.

  • It works fine for me. When you changed servers, did you also change countries? Sometimes all the servers in a country will claim I am connected when I can't access anything and changing to a different country fixes the problem.

  • Based on your description of the proposed law, I think it's unlikely. That sounds more like intercepting internet communication which probably wouldn't be done on individual computers unless you were being specifically targeted.

    I think the Linux Mint organization is based in Ireland but its contributers are from around the world. It's also open source so any embedded spyware in the code would be discovered quite quickly.
