I don't strictly disagree, but it's harder for Americans to properly protest when they may be killed or jailed for a peaceful protest vs, say, France, where farmers literally coated government buildings with shit and their non-militarized police just went "well of course, that's their right!" Meanwhile, when German press went to the US to cover the George Floyd protests, police shot at them, even though they were well identified, cooperative members of the press.
Off topic, but you seem likely to have opinions: If I was looking for a device to read in/before bed (ideally not a backlit screen) that would be used for more than just text (comics, tabletop rpg pdf content that would contain tables and illustrations, etc), are there any obvious choices, or things to look for? I'm comfortable jailbreaking, or even performing minor hard mods, but I haven't really shopped for an ereader before so I frankly have no idea what to look for
Wat. SURELY the copyright for Sherlock Holmes expired ages ago. Wasn't that part of the reason we got a bunch of movies and shows about Holmes a handful of years back?
Okay this is a take I can understand and respect. That being said, how can we observe unhinged posts, acknowledge them as such, and have a laugh about them, while making it clear that they are unacceptable? This feels a difficult tightrope to walk, given the context
If you don't want baffling, fucked up takes, then you don't want green texts, go to a microblogging community. I feel like the entire point of being here is to see the insanity without engaging with or or condoning it.
Obviously we could do the same or better with coal by just burning as much as we can without any attempt to filter it out of the air, encasing the earth in a wonderful shady smog, keeping us all shaded and cool /s
The part that gets me is that stans will tell you that AI will solve EVERY problem. Bro unless it solves problems it seems designed to exacerbate, namely wealth inequality, which it won't, it won't solve MOST of our problems, because most of the big problems of the world are social issues, not intelligence issues. We know how to solve world hunger, hell, the UN came to Elon and said "hey you said you'd solve world hunger if it could be done for $6 billion, so here's how you could do it for $6 billion" and he said no, I don't want to be the guy who solved world hunger. It's about a will to pay the costs involved, and how the rich are so unwilling to part with even a fraction of their wealth that it'll never happen, especially when they are the ones in control of AI (AGI escaping human control aside). Housing crisis, world hunger, genocide, disease, the list goes on and on, we already know how to solve these problems, or at least strongly mitigate them, but refuse to do so. Additional intelligence will not solve them.
Honestly we're at the point where the ability to pardon does more harm than good, and that's from someone who for the most part would rather someone guilty walk free than someone innocent go to prison
Yeah it's terrible, studies have even shown that such piracy turns into a massive free marketing campaign for the box office release. When the pirate bay was shuttered for months, box office numbers dropped significantly
While I don't strictly disagree, PC hardware isn't cheap today either. Just had a desktop get damaged in a move, and I am loathe to replace any parts (really need a new mobo though, it's TECHNICALLY working, buuuut...)
There are so many obvious things they could try.
-New stages (imagine, a new level)
-Differing weapon options/customizable ships (don't even get me started)
-Reactive galaxy map (ie: after each mission, Andross takes a "turn" and does something that changes missions or works toward his own win state)
-Open world stages (would work great with the above, wherein, like 64, completing different objectives prompts a different path or different outcomes)
-Multiple vehicle options for a single stage (Corneria in the landmaster, for example)
-Squad control (ie: after you help out Bill, he can be sent to other planets to impede Andross' actions away from where you're going, or stay with you for extra gun support on your own levels)
-Flight challenge stages, where there's little to no shooting, but getting through without crashing is very difficult (allows blocking off weird routes so Andross doesn't have to be everywhere, but a path can still be obstructed, as well)
And that's just off the top of my head, and ignoring stuff they tried in, say, Assault
I learned recently that the stated target demographic for the original hummer was "people who didn't serve in the armed forces, but felt like they should" and it's funnier every time I think of it. They knew their market SO well, and I'd been wondering for years "who the hell is this for?"
