  • I agree with you in general, but that person was not trying to have a discussion. Had you seen their post history? It was the same thing over and over again spammed to various different communities. The only comments on their profile were name-calling and slurs at the people who criticised their posts. I don’t think we should allow that.

  • The poll is the funniest part to me. I do want to surrender to “Iran/democrats”.

  • Idk if my answer counts here, I technically have a “living room” in my flat but I’ve got it set up as an office. So, nowhere else for the TV to go except my bedroom.

If I had space to put it in my living room, I’d probably still want a smaller one in my bedroom. There are some YT channels I love watching before falling asleep.

  • It’s a lot busier and there are more communities, which I’m thankful for. When I first joined I was pretty much always a handful of posts away from being “caught up”.

  • Morning: wash face with cleanser, then apply snail mucin, then apply SPF moisturiser

Evening: the same, though I tend to skip the SPF moisturiser more often than not. Should probably get a non-SPF one for evenings.

People don't compliment my skin or anything, but holy moly the difference it makes in the mirror... My skin naturally wants to be really dull and dry (yet also oily), the snail mucin really helps me look normal/less like a zombie.

  • Brave of you to comment this in the vegan community 😅

I’m also not vegan but I absolutely support ending factory farming, cutting down on meat in general (even free range), and having a veg-first diet. I think we can be better, even if we don’t go vegan. For me personally, the environmental impact (methane) is more significant than any moral directive.

OP, the cognitive dissonance you point out is totally valid. I honestly think it almost entirely boils down to how far removed we (the general population) are from the process that ends with ingredients in the fridge.

If you took me to a chicken coop, gave me a butcher knife, and told me I had to prepare dinner with one of the little fellas I’d probably make a run for it. Which is quite hypocritical of me as a chicken enjoyer.

Perhaps another small part of it is the boundary of what people can/cannot empathise with. To be completely honest I feel far less for things like shrimp and oysters than I do about cows and chickens. I don’t know if that’s backed by the science (they don’t “feel”/comprehend as much) or just my narrow mindedness about how other life forms work.

  • What in the world kind of job makes you set up a Hackintosh? 😭 while I’m stuck here with company managed Windows on a Thinkpad where I can’t even customise my wallpaper…

I built and set up mine back in the High Sierra days (hobby project ofc.) I kept it going for years but finally gave up a few months ago; didn’t feel worth it anymore when Intel is on its way out of the Apple ecosystem. Could have easily keep it going if I didn’t care about staying up to date with MacOS major releases.

  • I don’t relate to people with ADHD at all unless they’re also autistic.

  • The only Americans and Israelis I could ever get close to are those who are embarrassed by it.

  • Nobody else mentioned DuckDNS. It’s free and has worked great for me for years.

You’ll need to install a client that syncs/auto-updates your public IP, then pretty much never touch it again.

  • My instance has downvoting disabled and (I think) also does not federate downvotes. So 0/default is as low a comment score as I’ll ever see!

  • I aspire to this level of ignorance - must be quite comfortable.

  • This is 100% me as a SWE. I loved working on my own projects as a teen. Now I’m weary and my love for it has been displaced by rage and frustration lol. Last thing I’d think of doing after work.

  • Hair

    Jump
  • Dude lmao I lost my hair in my first year on T, it was fucking nuts. Middle Eastern genes done me dirty

Tradeoff still 100% worth it tho, despite feeling like the experience genuinely aged my soul lol.

  • Also a software eng (for now), genuinely thinking of starting my own barbershop lmao.

  • The answer is seasoning!

I either mash or dice it and add lime juice, a sprinkle of cumin, and chopped tomatoes. Salt the chopped tomatoes first. Life-changing.

  • Coming from Mr. Market Manipulation lmao.

  • So real. Never have audio issues on my Linux PC.

Meanwhile my company issue ThinkPad just doesn’t want to work with any Bluetooth audio input. I can’t take work calls from any other device either due to IT policy…

  • Distraction from the Epstein files, amongst other things. I straight up call this the Epstein war.
