  • I have the keyboard plugged into a monitor and accessing the USB hub is seriously complicated, so that's not really an option for me.

But I could try locking the system. I just hope I won't lock myself out for few hours, because I have pressed Enter multiple times while cleaning it.

  • It would be nice if there was a button or some app that could temporarily disable the keyboard, so it could be cleaned without accidentally changing settings for a running app, writing your boss you are not coming to work on Monday, firing few nukes, or wiping your whole system.

  • Thanks. I did miss that one. I was looking for a "Add to this collection" button inside a selected collection.

However I'm not sure if this collection is visible only to a user that created it, or an admin has to create it and it is visible to everyone?

  • Meatbag!

  • Thanks. It looks like Plex does have more user friendly features, but still no info about relations. That's a bummer.

It is really important to know the watch order (even if I had to specify it manually). When I think about it, Jellyfin probably fails even for the simplest watch orders like The Lord of the Rings; not to mention Stargate (Movie 1 -> Show -> Movie 2+3).

  • Maybe I have missed it somewhere? The UI is pretty confusing.

  • I never had the chance to try Plex, but how does it compare to Jellyfin? What kind of features does Plex have and Jellyfin does not and vice versa?

Examples of basic features I'm missing in Jellyfin:

    • Create a user-defined collection (like group of favourite movies)
    • Adding user-defined tags
    • Filtering by tags or any meaningful filtering
    • Filtering by languages (however this could be done by using combination of 2 different plugins that add tags and create collections)
    • [Important] No movie/show relations (e.g. The Lord of the Rings 1 -> 2 -> 3)
    • No way to know if movie/show belongs to any collection
  • I'm really glad that me and my friends decided to build new PCs the second we saw the first rise in RAM prices. It would have been hard to survive this on our 7-10 years old builds.

  • On my Fedora system (KDE) I have unified all unused and pointless folders (Documents, Pictures, Public, Templates) into a single folder called Unspecified with a trash icon. You could probably do that as well.

  • And that's why the only correct choice is a piracy. We just cannot afford to waste that kind of money on unfinished games. Especially while the economy is getting worse and worse.

Or one could play FOSS games. However, in such case I would still recommend supporting the developers as much as one can, if the game is enjoyable. Usually, those games are better than any AAA game that came out lately.

  • Interesting. I haven't noticed any change, but it is possible I haven't been paying enough attention because I don't use my phone when I'm sititng in front of PC.

I'm running GrapheneOS on Pixel 8 and my battery usually last around 4 days. It could probably last longer if Element (Matrix) wasn't running all the time on the background.

  • For that long? There are only a few left:

    • Firefox
    • Thunderbird (not loving it, but it is ok)
    • 7zip
    • My own app for sorting and moving files
    • My own password manager

    If I include games then:

    • OpenTTD
    • Quake III Arena (for LAN parties)

There were more that I loved, but I have stopped using them a month ago. (Because I switched to Linux):

    • MusicBee
    • FastStone Image Viewer
    • MPC-HC + madVR
    • StrokesPlus
    • Q-Dir
    • Malwarebytes Firewall Control
    • Input Director
  • This is the one I have been looking for. It is almost perfect. Even though I didn't want to go the self-hosting way. I will just need to figure out how to deploy it, so it doesn't conflict with Nextcloud (I'm not that knowledgeable). Thank you.

  • This looks like a awesome organization system app. I may decide to use it in the future for insurance purposes when I move to my own place. But I feel that it is a little bit cumbersome to use for my use case. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Around 50 receipts + photos of bought items, so it would be around 100 photos. Searching in those photos wouldn't really be feasible and there wouldn't be any relation between photos of receipts and photos of items. Also I don't think I would be able to write all the information from the receipt and about the items anywhere (item description, date of purchase, last warranty date, price, store name, store address).

  • That looks great for storing documents. However it is not really suited for storing receipts with multiple items and does not really track warranties. Still, good to know about it at least, thanks.

  • Ask Lemmy @lemmy.world

Does anyone know an app for storing receipts and tracking warranties for linux?
