  • I've used Avelon exclusively for about a day now, here's my feedback thus far:

    • Your implementation of NSFW blurring in the feed is the best I've seen across all Lemmy apps I've tried. I hugely appreciate the red [NSFW] block and the additional safeguard before loading the feed. 10/10, absolutely perfect.
    • Performance is, as I've mentioned previously, also the best across all Lemmy apps I've tried.
    • The haptics are very enjoyable; excellent implementation.
    • I love that you can see the formatting as you type it in your comment, rather than having to gamble on using Markdown correctly and then editing your post when it inevitably looks wrong
    • The scroll box for the comment you're replying to is a good idea. The UI is even better than Apollo's, where IIRC you couldn't actually read the comment you're replying to AND write at the same time.

The only other request I have, other than what I put in my other post which is already on your radar, is to add a swipe action for "collapse top comment". In Apollo and Voyager, you can swipe to collapse the top comment of a comment chain. For instance, if I swipe on this comment: https://lemm.ee/comment/1591116 it would act as if I tapped to collapse this comment: https://lemm.ee/comment/1565013 - hopefully that makes sense!

  • FPTP is objectively a shitty voting system, up to 49% of the people will go without representation.

I don’t know if that’s necessarily evidence of a decline in U.K. democracy, but it does still make the U.K. a flawed democracy.

  • Cash is just so inconvenient. Sure, it’s not so bad when you’re just dealing with notes, but as soon as you add coins it goes downhill fast.

That being said, I do get that cash makes it easier to think twice about purchases as you’re not just tapping your card like it’s a bongo drum.

  • Based, thank you! Are you having any luck with the share sheet?

  • Agreed re. community icons, it’s not gonna stop me from daily driving Avelon, but it does add a bit of nice flavour to the feed I feel :)

  • Much needed features not on your list in the OP:

    • Marking post as read when opening the image in text posts
    • iOS share sheet integration for images (please, if someone posts an image, let us share the IMAGE, not a link to the image or a link to the post)

Once those two are implemented I will daily drive Avelon as I really like the performance and the haptic feedback.

    Here’s a couple nice-to-have’s:

    • community icons in the feed
    • text posts in the feed need a default icon like Apollo, at the moment the layout shift is too drastic
  • Bug report: every comment (and presumably post) is showing as having 1 more upvote than they actually have.

  • Also, I can’t seem to work out how to tap someone’s name to access their profile. Since this app doesn’t handle links to other Lemmy instances internally (the “here” in your OP opens the browser rather than actually taking me to your post), I wanted to comment on your app’s community by finding it via your profile.

Am I just not hitting the correct pixels? Or are there no profile pages just now?

Also, the community icons are missing from the posts in the feed.

  • This needs thumbnails on the left as well as marking post read on opening thumbnails, other than that it looks great!

Onboarding looks great and the performance is perhaps the best I’ve ever experienced trying various Lemmy apps.

  • I have to be in a certain mood to watch their videos. When my brain is in that mode, everything about that channel is perfect from the slow pace, to the dry humour, to the excruciating detail.

    And I think that’s okay :)

  • Builds will likely change in the July 18 balance patch, but during mid game (WT3 @ 50+) I recommend Firewall. It’s not as mana hungry as Ice Sharts and isn’t as stat dependent.

I use the Icy Veins build for Firewall and it works great.

  • Why did you have to make me feel so old 😭 back in my day we respected our elders! 👴

  • There should always be an option to share the image itself, not a link.

  • I can't comment in the app either, even on the same instance.

  • Weird flex on a post about how some sponsors are actually helpful but okay.

  • Aha I see, thank you for explaining :)

  • Also, sometimes sponsors have genuinely good products.

Karl Jobst had a Geologie sponsor which helped my skin clear up a bit.

Recently LTT had a WickedCushions sponsor which I’m hoping will work better for my headphones than my Chinese knock-off ones. I want cloth padding, not leather padding, for my headset, and the ones I got don’t snap in place like the official ones. Hoping WickedCushions are better. They’re arriving today.

Lastly, some of the sponsor segues and spots themselves are just plain funny and add to the content. Karl Jobst with Raid Shadow Legends, Internet Comment Etiquette and Internet Historian with NordVPN, most of LTT’s sponsors, etc.

  • Right, I see your point, thank you for clarifying :)

That being said, unlike the male-to-male example, where I personally don’t understand why the spec prohibits it, I think it’s pretty obvious why consumers want USB-C. The Internet is awash with memes about inserting USB three times, etc.

I think there’s a vast difference between “why is male-male banned? Heck it, I’ll create one as it serves our use case” and “I’m going to negate the only consumer-facing advantage USB-C has for no real reason”. Yes I know C has many other benefits but the common denominator doesn’t care about any of that.

  • I’m not sure I understand your point. You can make a USB stick that fries your hardware too, that doesn’t mean Kingston is going to make all of their pen drives fry your hardware.

Is this some kind of “acshully I’m technically correct because it’s theoretically possible” thing?
