  • They're not as good as the old ones by a lot, admittedly they're frequently pretty bad but I still kind of feel like the treehouse of horror episodes tend to have at least one passable story and are usually the highlight of the season.

  • I think we might need a translated version for America now too honestly. None of the things in this comic are common anymore, I think Kmart doesn't exist at all in the US.

  • The most consequential thing I will every do in my life is take a picture of the location of a rental car pickup desk at this airport I went to when I was in my 20s. It's the top picture for the location and it has 9 million views. If I ever topped that at this point... I feel like it wouldn't be a good time.

  • Season 23 episode 22: Rating 3.9: Lisa Goes Gaga: Lisa helps Lady Gaga and learns the importance of being yourself.

Season 30 episode 18: Rating 4.6: Bart vs. Itchy and Scratchy: Krusty releases an all-female reboot of Itchy and Scratchy

We can guess at why those two got the lowest ratings of the entire series.

  • Just wait til a single TV show clip catches your interest. Shorts are desperate to get us out of our curated bubbles.

  • Those ones are kinda expensive and you probably want a Sherpa for your first time.

  • Sure would be nice if sci-fi writers who warn us of how we're heading towards dystopia would be wrong a bit more often.

  • Disagree, in my old age I quite enjoy some of that hate and bitterness. Just got to make sure you can justify it.

  • Some of it is incompetence, but some is... more complicated incompetence. A lot of the weirdness you see is where some executive somewhere had a problem that affected him and had enough money/clout to throw around that they could make whatever just happen. Microsoft is the worst at this.

  • A lot of paramilitary organizations are suddenly showing a lot of interest in the things on Github.

  • I do want to hear the story of the physicist when they got to making up the names for charm and just strange. I imagine many sleepless nights.

  • Paul Giamatti was acting like no one told him he couldn't win another Oscar for his performance there for a minute.

  • Listen buddy, after Covid the brain just never quite got back into the groove on online conversations for some of us. I feel very called out, lol.

There are a lot of bots, but some of us are legit just a little damaged.

  • You're a perfect physical specimen, not for long, let us destroy that by making you sit here and watch this screen for the next 25 years.

  • Under 31, retire by 56 is specifically due to the pension requirements. It's to make sure anyone who is hired is eligible for it when they have to retire. It requires 25 years of service.

I haven't seen anything specifically denoting why you have to retire by age 56 but it's implied that it's just because younger people tend to have faster reaction times and are better at multitasking, etc.

  • If you need to exit vim, just open a new terminal and reboot the machine.

  • Yeah, looking back, that seems like it may have been a bad plan.

I'm still glad she's not under her conservatorship but... Britney needs some help somewhere.

  • Learning about buoyancy in relation to quicksand is a helluva thing. You panic thinking you're going to sink and drown but then you stop not even half way and realize it's just more annoying mud but at the beach.

  • The trash talking on AI is half people with legitimate concerns on the societal and ecological impact and the other half just want to be in on the party and aren't interested in understanding it. It's useful like googling things is useful, the items you search for are not always correct, but if you have a basic level of knowledge it'll help you get where you want to be much faster.

Nothing quite compares to Claude Opus in a cohesive package that I'd recommend for an average self hoster but I personally really like running Nemotron from Nvidia. It's not the best model, but in my experience it's consistently good enough along with being fast and stable. If you're focused more on coding, I hear the Qwen series had some good models.
