  • So we have captchas already enabed and had decided to enable email verification at the first sign of bot spam. So far I don't think any bot has targeted our instance, but if you find bot activity here in future message me or another admin and we'll turn on email verification.

Thanks for watching out on the situation.

Edit: https://fedidb.org/network/instance/lemmy.elest.io there are some very obvious bot instances setup now it seems.

  • Pretty nice I'll add it to the list thanks!

  • Thanks that's a pretty neat site to check defederation

  • I've been thinking of collecting index/list type sites for lemmy and unsure whether to append them here or make a seperate post for them

  • Only because it's in the post itself lol

  • It's an issue that will be fixed in the next update (which is gonna be released pretty soon)

  • Piratebay is not a good choice. The uploads have no moderation so there is a high risk of getting malware.

Check this section of fmhy wiki to find better alternatives.

  • It seems like it was a UX bug that has been fixed and would be resolved in next update. Issue

  • Correct me if I'm wrong but it's my understanding that defederation is in fact bidirectional. lemmy.world can't see new posts from beehaw after the announcement.

  • I think it's different with Lemmy since people make posts in communities and it's in the community moderator's power to remove problematic comments.

If an entire instance supports or encourages such behaviour though, then you're right and such instances should be defederated.

  • Right now no, you'll have to create a seperate account.

But account migration is one of the most requested features so I think it'll be implemented soon-ish.

  • The creator of the list is not adding unofficial communities in the index, so there might be the communities you're looking for on Lemmy already.

If not, it's still very early days so give it time each day many more communities are being created.

  • Each instance will have different perspective on it. Some would obviously censor more stuff than us. It will depend on the user what kind of experience he is looking for.

  • There have been multiple clones, but I think this is the best of the current ones.

  • If you're looking for anime songs, https://hikarinoakari.com/ and https://osanime.com/ are good places to search. If you couldn't find it in those two sites, there's always the fmhy wiki to go through.

Edit: Saw your comment on the song you're looking for, here's the link for it.

  • The version from 17.3 to 17.4 is mostly db optimization, and the devs said they'll be releasing v18 with major reworks any day now, so we decided to skip v17.4 and will jump to v18 the moment it's released.

  • This is pretty nice as well!
