  • I'm hoping this is successful enough to put Starlinks on the next one to actually get operational, but the loss of attitude control and lack of Raptor relight don't make me super optimistic.

  • For the rest of us who aren't in states with the trial this year, I've been using Freetaxusa for a few years. Free federal, $15 state.

  • Front Range Rail would be pretty great

  • Wirecutter and RTINGS both do a lot of testing and reviews, including for headphones.

  • The mass application boom is so annoying. Seeing a sankey diagram of someone who applied to hundreds of jobs always bothers me.

  • They also elected Ron Johnson

  • Getting paid for on-call hours would be cool. If only.

  • I got mine a little over 4 years ago and am still on the original toner. It gives low toner warnings but just keeps on printing.

  • Have you heard of Dragonfly? It's a thousand pound, nuclear powered drone that'll fly around Titan. Ingenuity has been a great first step (hop?) with these rotorcraft, and I'm really looking forward to seeing what else comes next.

  • I can echo almost all of this, to the point that I was wondering if we used to work at the same company.

(I fully believe on purpose, to milk more money out of NASA)

I remember a pretty absurd situation along these lines. We ended up delivering faulty hardware to the prime contractor, who said there wasn't a specific requirement for this failure mode, so they wanted to ship it, get paid, then have NASA fail it, write a new requirement, and buy another. The world of contract modifications and requirement lawyering always left a bad taste in my mouth. There are a handful of companies that I really want to see get banned from NASA contracting.

  • I'm surprised to learn that he had a heart

  • Twitch having 1400ish employees before the layoffs doesn't seem too crazy, right? Cutting 35% is insane, though.

  • This feels like a good spot to remind folks that you can get free at-home covid tests from covid.gov.

If you haven't gotten one in a bit, covid vaccines are also free in the US, either through your health insurance or through the Bridge Access Program.

  • George Galloway was on Big Brother, so he must not really mind the surveillance and abuse.

  • It wasn't a NASA lander, it was an Astrobotic lander. NASA has been busy with Mars landings. The whole point of CLPS is to get cheaper missions by doing less micromanaging. We'll see how Intuitive Machines does next.

I don't think anyone even moderately informed has though a 2025 Artemis 3 landing is realistic for years at this point. It sounds like the official delay announcement is coming soon.

  • Ouch, Vulcan did its job, but Peregrine can't get stable sun pointing to charge batteries. Hopefully they're able to get back on track. The volley of lunar landers in the past few years has been rough.

  • It seems like there should be an automatic continuing resolution to prevent this time wasting.

  • We'll see if ULA actually gets sold now that Vulcan finally flew and LM and Boeing want out.

It still doesn't make any sense to me for Blue Origin to buy them.

  • He might be right wing from a global perspective, but I'm still gonna vote for him instead of whoever has the R label. I wish we had cooler viable options, but "lesser of two evils" reigns supreme.
