  • A skill toy. They originated as prayer beads in Russian prisons, and people started using them as a way to pass the time by flipping them around and doing tricks. Modern chetki are designed specifically for this type of manipulation

  • I have a few staples that's for sure!

  • I would definitely say begleri are my fav skill toys!

  • It's not a yo yo. It's for contact-style manipulation, similar to a deadeye or coin tricks, but hollow

  • Thanks!

  • Best babies

  • Pffffft. Only 27? I’ve maxed my allowed tabs on my phone browser several timed over, let alone my computer browser.

    Also. Firefox >>> Chrome.

  • Lmaoooo that’s a hilarious mental image

Glad you found it eventually though!

  • Fantastic! I really hope you like it :)

    And yes it is! !idlehands@lemmy.ml

I also have a few posts on there in my post history, if that’s easier to navigate to!

  • Yep you can! I have a set on my wrist right now, in fact. Some styles can be very clunky and annoying (esp with the tassels, which are needed to be able to slide the closing bead down to slip it off your wrist and give you slinging room) but if you shop around a little I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you.

I personally never go anywhere without arounsquare’s nano mkultra set - pricey, but I’ve definitely gotten my moneys worth. You can see them in a few of my other posts on here. I also got a great set from workshopfidgets on etsy, similar to this set here. There’s also loads of other great sets on etsy, and the internet in general!

Sorry if this was long, I’m just very passionate about skill toys and fidgets of all kinds - hence having the ‘idle hands’ community here haha

  • Oh awesome, I already deal with sleep paralysis on a semi-regular basis, now you’re telling me there’s yet another thing to worry about? 😭

  • Borderlands 2, combined across systems I have over 1k hours

  • Komboloi might be up your alley. They’re more skill toys than fidgets, but it’s still something to do with your hands

  • Chetki from Aroundsquare, it’s a skill toy

  • That image makes them even more frightening looking...

Very cool though. It's astounding how it's simultaneously not that long ago that this was, how long it took for humans to have the collective knowledgebase for this to happen, and how exponentially far we've come since then.

  • Yeah it would be really great to be able to make a temporary filter, like I'd love to be able to have my homepage without any content from Memes without having to unsubscribe

  • 100%. I use a third party app called Nintype which actually lets you two-thumb swipe type - to my knowledge the only one that has this as a feature. It's so so much faster than single thumb swiping and peck typing once you get used to it. Sadly it's been abandoned by the dev, so I'll be gutted when whatever iOS version decides Nintype is too old and no longer supported

  • Oh this is cool! Thanks!

  • Stunning photo. This is so interesting!
