A husband. A father. A senior software engineer. A video gamer. A board gamer.

  • I mean…both concepts aren’t mutually exclusive.

  • Movies used to be nothing but dialogue. I adore Denis Villeneuve movies, his artistic style and direction, but he clearly grew up in the 70s and 80s and didn't watch movies from the 40s and 50s. He's only a mere decade-ish older than I am, and I'm not a successful movie producer/director like he is, but if he thinks television corrupted movies, then that feels to me like a rather myopic take. And good lord, Woody Allen made his living on nothing but dialogue in the movies he made during Villeneuve's formative years.

  • Or further grift his voter base.

  • …or rather — fucking money…while every branch of the government is either in on it, or lacks any spine.

Citizens United needs to be overturned and we need to stop electing corrupt/corruptible pieces of shit, and laws actually need to be enforced without it taking years or decades.

  • Completely agree. I miss Reddit from 2007.

  • I’ll comment here what I commented on another thread about this…

If they’re children then they can get social security numbers and be claimed on taxes, right?

  • I’ve run into a number of toxic asses on Lemmy, but I chalk it up to Reddit bleedover. I sincerely hope they all stay on the sinking Reddit ship, but inevitably the Fediverse will be inundated with them.

  • It seems one of those life goals are to drive 15 miles per hour lower than the speed limit in the passing lane, and not passing anyone. Every single time I take to the road.

  • I wonder if you typed that with a straight face. If so then you are wildly out of touch with how FOSS and the democratization of FOSS development works.

You use words like “entitled” as a derogatory term when you clearly don’t understand that yes, the community is entitled because that’s how these FOSS licenses work. And people have every right to be upset when the status quo changes for a project they have also helped develop and helped get popular.

So either you are trolling, or you are clueless. Either way you should be ignored and this is as much time I’m going to waste writing this comment.

  • Two pieces of shit talking to each other. Nah, I’m good.

  • It’s amazing what lengths Carlson goes to in order to stay relevant. Sad, really.

  • Oh I used some interesting IDE-based searching. QA closed the ticket so apparently I got them all! Haha.

  • Is anyone else worried about the apple vision pro?

    Nope.

  • That “just changing a word” is easy and quick. A codebase is an iceberg. Management only really typically understands the surface, but there is a disproportionate amount of ice under the water.

I had to change all instances of a label from a word to an abbreviation. Because we don’t have i18n set up in the app, it ended up affecting 55 different files. I did my best to consolidate into everything calling a common function, but it’s far from perfect. 55 files changed because management said “oh this word here should be shorter”.

  • Thanks for the info!!

  • I do love a lot of his music. It’s just difficult to hear the shrill of the harpsichord, for me.

  • Yes. Because it’s the correct thing to do.

    😜

  • He was! But he overused the harpsichord, in my very humble and unfounded opinion, and it hurts my ears to listen to a lot of his creation. I get why he did (the piano was still a very new creation, and the harpsichord could be more easily heard in concert halls), but it sure does pierce the eardrum these days.

  • We should only believe objective, peer-reviewed, replicated data as fact. If that is the case here, then yes. If it’s not yet gone through the rigorous scientific process, then no.
