  • Thanks for the video.

  • You can upload copyrighted content and basically any video you like on a peertube instance that you host. Most of the public instances don't allow this but if you host your own peertube instance, you are the boss.

But keep in mind one thing, even though peertube supports peer to peer, the file needs to be stored on a central server in this case your instance. This may land you in trouble.

Also, your ip address is public.

  • yep that is a problem.

  • I just use Telegram to download movies. 😎Its great for that as well.

  • Every messaging app has its own problems including Signal and Telegram. If you look here, you will be able to find posts on why some people don't prefer Signal/Telegram.

I would just recommend you to use Signal. At least their server side code is open source (some of the code is not like the new spam detection tool.)

Telegram is not really great for private communication. Also end to end encryption is not enabled by default and the server side is closed source. But Telegram is a really feature rich and powerful messaging app.

  • If an instance goes down, then pretty all much all data on that server will not be accessible. So the communities, posts and users on that instance will be gone.

Maybe lemmy can implement something similar to the matrix protocol.

Matrix is really a decentralised conversation store rather than a messaging protocol. When you send a message in Matrix, it is replicated over all the servers whose users are participating in a given conversation - similarly to how commits are replicated between Git repositories. There is no single point of control or failure in a Matrix conversation which spans multiple servers:

I think taking more measures to hide your fingerprint will actually make you more unique and you will probably standout more.

  • Congrats on the new release. The new features are really great

  • I am in high school

  • You don't have to host a matrix instance. Creating a room/space on the default matrix.org server is easy and free.

  • Not yet working still studying.

  • No, I haven't donated to any open source projects but I have made some small contributions to several projects that I use.
