  • Tbh I think its more about having the power to do that with no consequences than it is about actually liking women or wanting to flirt with them. I say this bc when it comes down to it, the people who engage in that behavior hate women & resent them when they have to treat them like humans.

  • I personally use telegram a lot for Arabic speaking sources, but there are a lot of good english sources and channels with english translations. Unfortunately, some of the best channels were banned in the US including Resistance News Network and the official al-Qassam communications channel. Besides that, I have found a couple official channels including:

    • Spokesperson for the Yemeni Forces, Yahya Saree (sp) - mostly in Arabic but also posts english translations of most statements - https://t.me/army21ye
    • Official English channel for Hezbollah - https://t.me/mmirlb

    News Publications:

    Another one I look at sometimes is Red Alerts which is a bot that posts a screenshot of a map with an area highlighted each time an air raid siren in Israel goes off. It goes off a LOT.

    Just to give a warning, for both conflicts, telegram is FULL of internet personalities who have no real way of verifying information and profit off the fog of war. Some of those channels are useful but it's very easy to get sucked into an engagement spiral because they frequently share each other's channels & stuff. Thats why I mostly only linked official publications.

    It's pretty incredible how widespread Iran attacked immediately, it really gave the feeling that they were planning on this from the get go. Especially considering what happened last time when it felt like they were slow to respond.

  • This is the last time I will reply to you because it doesn't seem like anything anyone is saying about his behavior is resonating with you. You believe he's not, but we have provided proof that he is multiple times to the point that he became hostile. It shows a lack of respect for queer, trans, and intersex comrades for you to be repeatedly shown proof and then turn around and say he's not. You didn't write those words, we didn't write those words, he did - and this is one of the last corners of the internet where we can exist without our existence being called into question with no consequences. If I recall, this isn't the first time you've asked.   • I'm sorry, but saying he wasn't queerphobic around you does not address the issue when you were just presented with a litany of examples of a pattern of behavior over time. We don't know you, we don't know your ability to address or identify queerphobia, and we have experienced a very different person from the one you described as articulated in the many queerphobic things he has said that have been linked here.

    It's not that I don't feel bad for someone having a mental crisis. It's very serious and he should get help. But that's also not a good reason to let him back into a community in which he has caused harm, especially when there's no discernible proof of him having grown and learned from the harm he has caused.

  • Kirby talked down to me while spouting men's rights talking points and also denied ever saying anything transphobic in the same thread. Considering the fact that he didn't tell you anything about his ban I doubt he has reflected even in the slightest about it. I am personally not comfortable having him back, because he seemed to take it upon himself to take over every thread at the time that was about queerness or sexism, choking out the possibility for anyone learning or understanding about them while at the same time making it unsafe for queer and femme comrades. Can you honestly tell me that he wouldn't do that again?

    There are a couple comrades on this thread who have said that they would be fine with having him back, and while I usually appreciate their analysis, I am a bit skeptical of their seriousness to combat transphobia as a result.

  • The most glaring contradiction here being that these LLMs are trained in the third world for shitty pay to begin with.

    Couple that with the exponential cost of resources for how they currently work & it will create an acute crisis shortly down the line. They just can't sustain the resources of powering it while also trying to wedge it into every single crevice of their current infrastructure lol

    I agree, but I'm also talking about the entire world here where the majority is still existing in the capitalist mode of production. Do I think it will be faster this century compared to last? Yes. Do I think it will be faster than the transition from feudalism to capitalism? Yes. But that doesn't necessarily mean that it won't take a long time from the perspective of an individual.

  • Agreed. Interestingly it seems to me that decolonial movements AND American imperialist pressure have cornered Europe into turning to green energy. I have found it incredibly ironic the past couple years that they've been celebrating reductions in emissions when it's mostly a symptom of deindustrialization due to energy supplies being cut off.
