  • You used to hear about needing a burner phone when visiting China, that it is now also required to visit the US is insane.

  • So what you are saying is that Europe should buy the US personal identification services?

I mean, it would be funny to have European companies start buying major US companies, enforcing European work standards, vacation, parental leave, less stress, better quality of life.

  • Yeah, you got me right

  • Ok, so time to buy masks, gloves and other PPE?

  • What a shitty manager and company.

    She deserves far better

  • Yeah, with Trump and the weak Biden administrations they got what they wanted, complete immunity.

The only thing causing issues for them now is the EU, but they have pointed their massive lobby machine toward them.

I seem to recall the EU being fucking stupid and signing a deal that they will accept US safety standards on US made cars.

Wasn't there also a law that said that American cloud providers that wanted EU business had to build EU only datacenters for the EU customer's data that would not be shared with the US, the providers promptly broke that law and the EU ignored it

  • Currently, nothing.

I store my photos on a 4TB local drive in my computer.

This autumn though, I have accepted that I need to bite the bullet and over pay for the last two drives in my NAS build.

I currently have four 8TB drives, but need two more to complete my plan for a zraid2 32TB storage array.

  • That is just because they have too many employees and not enough AI.

  • Back in 2019, I started listening to the WTYP podcast, didn't know much about trans stuff then, and was mostly confused about the pronoun check, then for a while I got annoyed at it. But over time I understood that it doesn't matter to me.

If November identifies as a woman, it doesn't hurt me to oblige her.

I don't really understand the whole trans deal, but I do understand common curtesy.

  • Why would you pay money to attend a political rally?

A right wing one at that?

    Seems dumb.

  • Hehe, while I have heard about how the IRS in the US does not have the best reputation, here in Sweden, the tax office is generally considered one of the most trusted institutions by the general population

  • This is funny, after X years of working professionally as an IT guy in a Microsoft 365 environment, I have started to rely heavily on OneDrive and I feel worried if I save work stuff outside of it.

At home I don't use it, but I am working on building a NAS to have better storage.

  • Calling it now, nothing will come of this.

  • I am sorry I came of as abrasive, I have been on online forums since the early 2000s, and picked up some useful habits over the years.

One that applies here is to mark edits clearly, especially if they are major edits and made after the conversation has started.

Sadly I have also picked up some bad ones, where I forget that not everyone has had the same time online and picked up the same habits.

  • Exactly, and OP never mentioned the change which is bad, it causes confusion and borders on gaslighting when it comes to such a major change.

Common etiquette is to mention a big update like that, had OP done that at the time it would have been fine, but they didn't and now I am annoyed at a major silent change that changes how the replies in the thread appear.

    EDIT: Spelling

  • That is the point of a GD link, it leads to a file in someone's storage on GD, the point is that it could point to any kind of file, and as a random reader, I have no way of identifying the content before accessing it.

  • If you just had made a quick note on the OP saying:

"EDIT: video host changed as requested"

    Or something similar.

And added a note in the reply to my comment saying something like:

"Hey, I changed the video host, you should be able to view it now!"

I would have been fine, as it stands now, you hid the fact that you changed the link, which borders on gaslighting.

It is common etiquette to add an EDIT tag with a summary of changes made to post when major changes happens.

It makes for clear communication and can clear up mistakes.

  • The downvotes came from when OP posted a random Google drive link instead of selecting a proper host for the video. OP then quietly changed the link.

The downvotes mostly came from the bad hosting of a video, and are still deserved as OP never mentioned that they changed the video host, which is bad.

  • Nice one, your reply to me here came after you changed where the video was uploaded and edited the link, yet your reply mentioned nothing about that fact.
