  • An AI data center and myself are similar in that there’s no intelligence inside.

  • More people will probably switch when they figure out they don't need to install anything and can change their default search engine on their current browser.

  • I think reddit is too big to be able to foster long term connections with other people, unless the communities you are in a small/niche enough. It might actually be easier here on lemmy/piefed/mbin because of the smaller population. I can identify users by their usernames in some of the communities I’m active in and interactions aren’t a one time thing.

Hate to say it, but Discord is pretty effective at being able to make long term connections, depending on the group of course.

Same as in-person relationships, I think the best way is to find online communities about your hobbies and interests, and look for smaller spaces, whether it be a group chat, a forum community, or even a microblogging platform.

  • When he has solid source material to work with and he doesn’t get the liberty to stray away from it too much, he usually makes good stuff. But that’s pretty much it. Stuff he makes on his own are usually bad.

  • sent abroad for conferences or to do workshops with other teams in other offices (if you work for an international company)

My employer was like this when I started. It was a growing company that wasn’t too big yet, so it had the culture and perks of a startup, but without the downsides of being too small. Even as regular ICs, we got to travel internationally at least once a year to attend conferences or visit our offices in another country. We were also able to attend training abroad. We were eventually acquired by a very big company with all the bureaucracy and red tape and now all those travel perks are all but gone.

  • They designed it like that knowing it was gonna fail in years? Were they limited by resources/money/corruption or did they just not care?

  • The worldbuilding. When you are given a full picture of the universe where the plot takes places, it’s easier to fully immerse yourself in it.

  • I’m still waiting for Mindhunter, but without Fincher, I don’t know if it will ever be the same.

  • Software. There are still a few holdouts like Mullvad, but over the years a lot of good software have turned to shit because of greed. Bitwarden is next sadly, as their new CEO comes from private equity and M&A.

  • Apparently my nephew is Socrates reincarnated.

  • Don’t underestimate billionaires. They’ll probably just start paying illegal whaling ships to hunt orcas.

  • The race to the bottom perhaps.

  • Same in China where some companies hire an English-speaking white dude as a mascot to tag along with executives to give them a more prestigious, international look.

  • That’s definitely something I would cook up if those were the ingredients available to me. We sometimes do a cheese tsukemen with japanese curry as the dip.

  • Why did they let it dance so close to the steps? Was it supposed to walk up?

  • Sicario is my favorite movie. Villenueve is more hit than miss, and you can’t really go wrong with any of his recent films. Arrival, Prisoners, Blade Runner 2049, and the Dune films.
