  • This is exactly the scenario that the Democratic party is working so hard to quash.

  • At this point I assume more malicious intent than incompetence.

  • Yeah if something is important enough that I need an interpreter instead of just fumbling through it with my bad second language skills, it will be a human. Things like that require understanding nuance and context and being able to say "sorry I didn't get that" so that they get it right.

  • Congrats this is the first realistic comment about AI I've seen not get down voted to hell.

  • They are talking about $200 pro tiers for the good models. The only way I will still be using them is on a pay per token basis for really important or time consuming stuff where I can justify the spend. Certainly not worth it just as a Google search where I don't have to sort through the results myself.

  • A few years ago there was a study going around that neanderthals were the smart ones..?

  • No guns, no helicopter, no military- that's still one star.

  • I agree, it's basically the thesis of my original post at the top of the thread. There's even some interesting studies showing that due to working hours and inequality, Europeans are actually richer on average by hourly work than Americans. But if you look at GDP PPP per capita, the EU is lower than the US, which was my point in pointing out there are 100m more people in Europe. In 2026, the GDP per capita (PPP) for the European Union was approximately $67,957, while for the United States, it was about $94,430

  • Yes but the EU has 100 million more people than the USA.

  • Sure, but a lot of times they go hand and hand, at least to a point. As someone who's lived half his life in the US and half in Europe, I can say that Europe is a lot more equal and a far larger proportion of people have a good quality of life here even though the US is richer overall.

  • Looks like we've found an even better way to keep the stupidest people off Lemmy.

  • They're waiting for their applications to the Ministry of Silly Walks to come through.

  • I never stopped buying my albums. For all the reasons you list. Fuck streaming.

  • Yeah that's pretty much the trifecta of doing everything people hate.

  • Well even a broken clock is right 2x a day.

  • What about all the subsidies we pay on gas? Maybe get rid of those if you want some revenue?

  • So that's like 20 of them now? Good to know.
