  • My Android phone fucking blows. The one I had prior was great but I lost it. I hate the constant alerts from the apps I can't delete, I can't take up close photos anymore without it looking like shit and not focusing, the screen will flip horizontal at random times when it's got the lock screen option turned on. I don't want a Google phone, though.

Anyone have opinions on the OnePlus phones?

  • Seriously 😭😭 my grocery bill for two people went up from 80 dollars a week to 130 practically overnight. Houses doubled in price in like 3 years in the town I live in. They also raised the cap on rent to 14 percent here. I only bring home 27k a year with 6 years of experience in a field that nobody cares about (social services).

  • For me, I realize that I need to just say a couple of words to make it a pleasant exchange, but not being able to really share my feelings feels frustrating, kinda like how a kid feels frustrated when they need to moderate their feelings. A lot of the time I'm really exhausted and unhappy too so that makes it worse that I can't vent and have to moderate myself cuz I'm in a perpetual state of trying to keep my mask from slipping from burnout

  • I don't think it operated under the assumption that communism is bad. You can't have a movie about 19th century war/politics without there being politicians demonizing communism, and communists being ambiguous or completely scared at best of openly admitting their affiliations. It's not realistic for a big Hollywood production to come right out with a big banner that says "CAPITALISM EVIL COMMUNISM GOOD" even if Nolan wanted to.

Tbh a lot of criticisms that I've seen online feel like those making them haven't even seen the film. Or they really lack nuance, idk.

  • I think that it's very likely that the other producers or whoever backed the film may have influenced just how prominent the pro communist message could be. Also, at the time you had to be pretty secretive about your affiliations so it felt like part of that was to add to how people might talk about it in potentially mixed company.

  • In my perspective, the movie didn't perpetuate the "this is the lesser of two evils" line of thought at all. Yes, that was expressed but with all of the politicians in the room it would be unrealistic for their to be no dialogue of that sort at all. The tone of the scene, to me, felt like it was a poor excuse, and all the while Oppenheimer is convincing himself that that is the only option, like he leaves his guilt behind until after the damage had been done. I didn't leave feeling like he was a hero, or feeling bad for him. It showed him living with the shitty choices that he made that's what he deserved for not being true to his original convictions

  • I haven't seen Barbie (yet) but I'd probably want to see it second anyway, as a palate cleanser.

  • White chocolate is just a shell of the chocolate it wants to be

  • Makes sense. Jeez it's insane just how exaggerated and pervasive western propaganda is...like, I've done a good amount of research to try and undo my perceptions about the DPRK, but even still I have the thought that "surely there must be something that's accurate in the media that's just wildly exaggerated". But I guess US media does just make up whatever the fuck they want.

Did you visit more rural towns? What were they like? I was checking the sattelite images out on Google earth and it looks like they're really tiny and spread out. Also did you go to the Waterpark? Lol

  • Oh I'd love to hear about your experience! I imagine since you had such an extended stay, you didn't have any kind of chaperone with you?

  • I think I have noticed more crappy behavior as well over the past week or so that I've been more active, but I have tended to notice that not as many people feed the trolls as they would on reddit. Downvotes and people move on instead of engaging, it's nice.

  • I think you can see logs on lemmy, I'm pretty sure I saw a beehaw log but I don't know how to access them

  • Depending on the instances you look at, reddit is center right compared to lemmy. Lemmy is full of socialists and communists gasp

  • I hope so, it's been like two full months since lemmy has been 85 percent posts about reddit. If I see another fuck u/spez post I'm going to vom. I'm happy to be on the connect app though where I can hide those posts, makes browsing way more bareable

  • Have you ever spent weeks and months and years of being so sad that you don't even want to exist anymore? And the feeling won't stop, so you start thinking that you want to die instead of not exist? Then that turns into wanting to kill yourself instead of just wanting to die, then that turns into daydreaming about the different ways that you'll kill yourself, and then turns into trying to figure out how to get what you need to do it, and where to do it?

Yeah, mood stabilizers help with that.

  • This would be super helpful! I only have base level knowledge around communism, and it's so hard to find both information that isn't absolute western imperialist propaganda against communism, or any nuanced critiques from communists on China/Russia/etc. I think learning about the criticisms from an ML perspective and having them readily available would be valuable, because so many people think that communists pledge absolute unwavering support to anything even somewhat perceived as communist in the media, which I know isn't true, y'all are capable of critical thinking.

  • Yes, I was trying to find this feature for like 30 minutes today lol. I feel like crossposting is really useful here as it might get more traffic to different communities so I've been doing it a bunch recently

  • Not only is it popular with cis women, but like the entire queer community. Also, it looks so insanely hyper stylized that I think that appeals to a lot of people who are into cinema that may not otherwise watch it. I really want to see it on a microdose of acid tbh

  • Trans athlete discourse is an obvious and very tired talking point that is a favorite among transphobes and conservatives. Also I did not mention communism or libs and I'm not interested in engaging in any kind of political discourse without an intersectional lens.

Maybe the Marxist communities trying to filter people out based upon their views on queer and trans people aren't meant for you.
