  • Some of the Portland parking garages downtown have them as well.

  • Yeah, then some of the wrong people might vote. /s

  • It should be noted that the evidence there is that a helicopter involved in the raid took off from a beach near the pier. So slim to none. And it doesn't even make sense, how would the pier be useful for a military operation?

  • It's worth looking at the timeline here. The Trump Administration had no problem doing something that was obviously immoral. It got canceled by the Biden Administration and an investigation started. Just noting the timeline because I still see people saying there's no difference between the two politicians.

  • Wall Street Journal: Mueller Doesn’t Find Trump Campaign Conspired With Russia

That was Bill Barr's summary of the Mueller Report. The news article you posted was written with zero knowledge of the actual report. When the actual report was released later, the summary was criticized as trying to form a false narrative that intentionally omitted important pieces of the report. He was spinning it to provide cover for his boss, in effect. Much of this rested on Mueller not declaring Trump guilty of a crime, but as was described in the report, this was always considered to be outside of the scope of Mueller's appointment.

  • Badly mauled is a weird way to say 15% larger than before the war started

Larger in soldiers, not in weaponry. And that was achieved through conscription, which means pulling young people in a rapidly aging society away from some of the most productive years of their lives. And of course many of those young people will sadly return to civilian life injured or not at all.

We'll see where things go now that Republicans have stopped blocking aid to Ukraine. Having the main supplier of military aid blocked blocked by legislative constipation does tend to make the front lines harder for Ukraine, yes.

  • Those are the 2022 estimates, before they were knee deep in a war. More up-to-date estimates from the IMF put them at #6. And that #6 is quite distant from the US.

  • Russian position says that foreign interference from the US contributed to Euromaidan (not respecting sovereignty and independence), thus, the Budapest Memorandum is null and void.

Nah, this was just a reconned excuse. Russia invaded Crimea just a week after the 2014 revolution. The moment a hostile government was in Kyiv, Russia was intent on ripping up the Budapest Memorandum.

  • And Russia will call damn near anyone a Nazi if it's in their interest.

  • It is mostly a shorthand for the type of ingredient in a sandwich. So you have veggies, sauces, (vegan) cheese, and of course bread. The actual macronutrient profile is likely to be more varied than just protein, like with a legume patty.

My diet does tend to be fairly low in protein, from what my food logging has shown. I am going to start some strength training and regular exercise within the next few weeks, so I want to have a balanced diet there.

  • Yeah, I've been learning some nushell. If you're dealing with data, it's just a great tool. So many sharp edges in the POSIX shell come from it being stringly typed, so having a strongly typed shell is extremely helpful.

  • I should try something with TVP. My husband has some around that he uses to make taco filling sometimes. I could do burrito bowls instead of sandwiches.

  • Oh yeah, I have some jackfruit sitting around. I hadn't really thought of using it, though, because it's meaty but low in protein. I should pull that out for a recipe, though!

  • I've only had limited exposure to seitan. Usually it's had a chewiness to it that I found unpleasant. I found tempeh to be more satisfying. Thinking back, it's mostly been in the form of the "kielbasa" type sausages.

  • My current belt tightening has to do with being overweight and diabetic. There's a vegan burger joint nearby that has various types of patties. I enjoy the legume based ones the most. The quinoa ones are great too, but I think it would be easier to start with legumes. Fortunately, legumes have all sorts of great health benefits.

  • Oh, yeah, that's a fine level of processing. I guess I'm mostly worried about getting a decent balance of nutrients and not having too much sodium. I can see tempeh or tofu sliced to be very thin. I've not been much for a lot of the seitan products out there, but maybe I can give it another try.

  • If you want to skip having a big ass bag full of liquids, many products are available in solid form. Toothpaste comes in tablets, shampoo comes in bars, and shave lotion also is available in bars. Then you can save your liquid quota for what really matters, like a wide assortment of personal lubricants.

  • I mean, I feel like I'm probably not going to be shot or macheted while in flight, so that's nice. But yeah, I know it's not great.
