  • Cheap materials like pieces of the IKEA furniture my neighbors are throwing away?

  • Seems easier to blame shared or closely stored towels?

    Cleveland Clinic explains:

You can get pubic lice anytime your hair comes in contact with another person’s infested hair. Most commonly, this happens during sexual intercourse. In rare instances, you can get it by sharing personal items like towels or sheets with someone who has pubic lice.

  • Like Israel?

Prosecute, sure. Not interested in "money for war and deportation" however much venom people deserve.

  • Yeah — they caused a lot of damage and I'm not wasting pity on difficulty they've brought on themselves, but it's an important & necessary step for them to do a 180⁰ so I'm glad to hear that and will happily accept their help/votes.

  • 15 minutes later: OK now I feel frustrated about the world instead of about work, time to take a real break.

  • This past Saturday, May 23, a coalition of mutual aid groups followed up with a rally at Cal Anderson Park to try and inject a sense of urgency into the conversation over how Seattle can absorb the influx of trans people leaving their homes in red states. They feel the problem so far has been largely invisible, absorbed by nonprofits and informal mutual aid networks that have become strained to their breaking point.

Several organizations mentioned in the article that sound like they could use donations.

  • I got mine from Alexonver.

I haven't found a really authoritative history, but this site among others recounts:

Back in the 1940s during WWII, cloth was rationed as everything was needed for the war effort. People became very adept and inventive at ‘making do and mending’.

A Lancashire company – E&A Chesstok – produced a whole load of tiny looms called “SpeedWeve”. They were even known as “Lancashire’s Smallest Loom” or the “Lancashire Speedweve”, and came with a little set of darning loom instructions.

  • The white yarn is just drawing a border so I know where to put the anchoring stitches. At the bottom end, opposite the hooks, the wrap is anchored with stitches, meaning it goes into and out of the cloth I'm patching once before turning back for the next row. And at both sides at the end of each row the weft is anchored with a stitch too.

    Thanks!

  • Thanks! Laying out the edges really helped.

  • [A] devastating measles outbreak in Bangladesh.

Since the virus took off in mid-March, the country has tallied more than 60,000 suspected cases and 528 suspected measles-related deaths. The vast majority of the sick and dead are children under age 5.

It sounds like part of the issue is health care capacity:

Her worried parents, like many other families, took her to the capital, Dhaka, where hospitals have the capacity to care for patients with a severe case. The journey took several hours. But once there, the child was turned away by two facilities already overwhelmed by the crush of measles patients.

And also a large unvaccinated group of young kids due to political change disrupting things — probably worth a read to understand the various factors.

  • Have you seen a chart like this for all sources, not just food?

  • But my company hasn't had their mandatory all-employee multi day AI training from contractors yet!

  • The article didn't say; has someone (Apple) verified the exploit? The "aren't many details" caveat puts me on the lookout for hallucinated exploits.

  • Specifically, looking W over the Longfellow (aka Salt and Pepper) bridge, towards Kendall.

    Are you in the hospital?

  • Is your goal financial return, or promoting an environmental / energy efficient future? Both? I think people usually mean the former when they say "invest" but it might mean either.

If it fits your goals, looking for a community solar or municipal energy plan with a green/local option can provide additionality, and 'less climate catastrophe' / 'more energy independence' are kinds of return on investment I value.

Though I'd also like my retirement funds to be supporting / depending on value from non fossil fuel.
