  • It definitely seems like the best competitor popping up. Familiar UI, nearly all essential features already functional, open source and self-hostable. I will say it feels like it came out of nowhere and having paid options out the gate feels a bit sketchy so I'm not completely placing any bets on it, but after trying it out for a bit I've been liking it far more than any other alternative.

    Matrix is more mature and established but very clunky, confusing for casual users, and most clients are terrible. Stoat feels extremely dated and buggy, and it feels exactly the same as when I first tried it a year ago before the name change. Alternatives are few and far between and nothing really excels just yet, but Fluxer feels the most promising.

  • I've always vouched for fully separate headphones + mic for years, though admittedly that's probably less applicable for wireless preferences.

    I swear by Sennheisers, currently using a Schitt DAC/amp, though offhand I forget the exact model of both. I used to stream and I sold off all my equipment except for mic RE20 XLR mic. I use an elgato stream deck plus with the xlr dock because funny knobs and buttons but their linux support is nonexistent and the foss alternatives aren't great, but it works.

  • Idk how D4 is holding up these days, it was honestly pretty good for a while but I dropped it right after VoH. The biggest issue is endgame was practically non-existent and it was incredibly easy to slap a build together that would one-shot basically everything in the game.

    PoE2 scratched that itch far better, picked it up right after I put D4 down and while it's far from a perfect game, it really did just about everything better than D4 did at the time. I'm not actively playing either game these days but I do plan to jump back into PoE2 when 1.0 rolls around.

  • This is the move. When I installed CachyOS (a year ago today actually), I set up a dual boot - figured it'd be good to have the "backup plan" instead of jumping right into it. I found myself going back a few times for various odds and ends. Over time I found I'd been flipping back to it less and less, I think the last time I actually used it was for a stupid gacha game that I finally put down for good.

    Finally got to the point where I just nuked the windows partition to free up some space. and looking back I really only kept it around in the early days because I didn't feel confident yet. (Though I do wish I had the forethought to arrange the partitions in a logical way because I couldn't actually extend my cachyos partition to the left, so I just opted to add it to the btrfs pool instead, it works I guess).

  • It was kind of weird to me how a lot of folks didn't seem happy with that one. I played the hell out of the original and the remake was almost 1:1 aside from the graphical updates and a small handful of QoL. They did a phenomenal job with it and really nailed the combat and vibes of the original in the best ways.

    Dropping the entire studio like this is so fucked.

  • I get that, but to me it's honestly less about the inclusions, especially given the dev timeline, but more about defending it so staunchly today with his whole "balancing out" shtick. It doesn't seem like anyone was actually paid for it, let alone under contract, so it would've been so easy to just go "yeah this is kind of fucked up after everything that's happened, let's cut these out before release" instead of doubling down on it and defending the inclusion of literal nazis and rapists.

  • Yeah honestly, like I can't say I forgive his past shit but he's absolutely come a LONG way from those days, credit where it's due. I'm more concerned about Edmund including literal nazis (the Kleins) and an actual rapist (Chrischan), along with not clearly communicating any of this to the people he pulled in. On top of that, he pulls the centrist card so hard to defend himself.

    I used to love this dude's games, sunk SO much time into the original SMB and both Isaacs, but he's clearly stuck in 2012 4chan.
