⚠️ I follow and comment on NSFW stuff.

I'm a 36m British writer, designer, gaymer, lefty snowflake, and AuDHDer. I never shut up about Ace Attorney, and I collect Tamagotchis. Trying to learn Japanese, currently N4-ish. Ask for my Slowly ID!

Also trying PieFed: @meejle@piefed.world

  • This may or may not be a joke, but yes, this is very often talked about among ADHDers!

I'm AuDHD and thankfully this is one area where my ordered, autistic side wins out – i.e. I have meticulously organised bookmarks and "Raindrop" tags for everything instead. 😄 I couldn't stand having tons of tabs open.

  • I don't have kids, but if age restriction did come for VPNs, I honestly think I'd subscribe to one for them. Or at least bring back the idea of having a "family computer" in the main living area, where they can use a VPN with supervision.

I know everyone's kids are different, but surely it's better to at least attempt to teach them how to use the internet safely and in a healthy way (adblock, security, privacy, bots, scams, the perils of social media, discussions about porn and when it is and isn't healthy/exploitative etc.) rather than keeping them on The Pretend Internet till they're 18 and then unleashing them on the world. 😬 So they can fall for every scam and get "hacked" every few days and argue with AI bots like old ladies.

  • Or Vlad

  • Oh. In which case it still works fine for me, what can I say. 😅

  • Archive.ph is good, especially because I've never met a paywall it couldn't bypass. 😏

  • Automatic doors on dishwashers, no doors on kitchen cupboards

  • Not that I've seen, no.

  • It irks me that all you ever hear about is "Ugh, Microsoft trying to force people to use Edge again"

And yet, when I did use Edge, I had to install an extension to remove the huge "We recommend using Chrome" banner on every Google service. 😬

  • I get where he's coming from as a tech person... I'm old enough to remember chatting to ELIZA and Alicebot. The current state of AI is impressive to me, as well as "worrying" and "destroying the planet" and "being rammed down our throats" and all the other bad stuff.

It's wildly tone deaf of him to say it in the middle of a backlash, though. 😬

  • What's a better way to say "possibly possible"?

That is, it may be possible for humans to colonize Mars or create sentient AIs, or for you to lift 400 pounds, but we don't know yet.

You answered your own question. 😁

  • Whoa you made me jump

  • What's the opposite of a lemon tho

  • God, I bet those replies were a cesspit

  • I think it refers to the ratio of "likes" to "dislikes". Like, when YouTube still showed a dislike count, it meant a video had significantly more dislikes than likes.

In this case I guess it got more "😄" and "😡" reacts than "👍" and "❤️"?

  • I think there might be less of a consensus than I first thought (oops 🙈), but it is backed up by a literal NHS report from June. Emphasis my own:

England and the rest of the UK have much lower service recognition and treatment rates of ADHD diagnosis compared with other European countries (e.g. Norway, Denmark, Spain). Recent data show a very high level of under-recognition and under-treatment of strictly diagnosed ADHD, with significant inequalities in access to care (e.g. minority groups). [...] There is also concern by some about potential over-medicalisation and over-diagnosis and a lack of regulation of ADHD service providers as this has been reported in some parts of the world. Some also raise concerns about ADHD self-diagnosis based on information from social media. However, currently there is no good evidence on what percentage of those waiting to see a clinician have self-diagnosed ADHD using social media and eventually meet or do not meet ADHD diagnostic criteria after a high-quality assessment. We only know currently that in England, recognised rates of ADHD are lower than the expected prevalence of ADHD. https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-read/report-of-the-independent-adhd-taskforce-part-1

    I also found this:

Reports indicate that ADHD affects 2.5%–5% of adults in the general population [...] However, fewer than 20% of adults with ADHD are currently diagnosed and/or treated by psychiatrists. Some adults with ADHD will have received a diagnosis in childhood, although some will no longer be in contact with psychiatric services and will not have access to treatment. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4195639

Both sources have a list of references. Hope they help! 👍

  • I suspect the world is a lot safer now than it was then, but everyone's scared of everyone else, so 🤷‍♂️

  • I love that the Reformtwats are so horrible they can't even tolerate each other. 😄

I cover Kent and that is the bane of my existence at the moment. It turns out they’re all wankers and it turns out they all hate each other and it turns out all they do is fight with each other rather than reforming the council or attacking the opposition or making savings.

    Reform's own South East organiser

  • Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said Sunday she will stop using “toxic” rhetoric, marking what would be a dramatic shift in a political brand...

Wow they didn't waste any time dragging her, I love it. 😄

  • "I think it's a good thing"

"I agree with my right honourable friend"

    The Government Responded:

    Yeah, nah.

  • Also, as a neurodiverse person, I can't deal with his calling ADHD a "mental health issue" (it's a neurodevelopmental disorder) and banging on about it being over-diagnosed (experts agree it's slightly under-diagnosed).

Not that he should be minimising mental health problems anyway. It's so obvious that it's designed to demonise more groups of sick and disabled people to make cuts more palatable. Just like Iain Duncan Smith tried to do with "bad backs". 🙄
