  • We have two near us and both are a great time! My wife is more into board games than I am but the food is delicious usually and their selection has both old favourites alongside new board games to try for the first time as well! It's a really great outing idea whether for a date, a social get together with friends, etc. Highly recommend going if one's close by!

  • Mastodon numbers are crazy when compared to the rest of the software on that list. Makes me wonder just how many are active users and/or how many search "Mastodon" after Musk bought twitter, made an account on mastodon.social and left it.

  • I'm really enjoying Lemmy to be honest. A decentralized platform rekindles the feeling of internet forums and the excitement of finding something new in each community. Seeing such a candid report from the developers is nice as well and reaffirms my decision to stay, regardless of reddit's decisions or direction as a platform.

Keep up the great work everyone involved!

  • I think meta will genuinely cannibalize the rest of the fediverse if they decide to pursue this matter further. Even with the best of intentions, meta being attached to the Fediverse in any way will cause it to consume the overall connotation and understanding to the layman of what the Fediverse is and - by extension - allow meta to reshape the concept however they'd like.

I realize the above is apocalyptic and hyperbolic language for sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if they pursue the concept of an instance/server for it to balloon in size with registrations from people and lead to their server becoming the defacto one, which is what I'd personally be afraid of.

    • Windows 11 on the main PC
    • Windows 10 on the HTPC
    • Linux Mint XFCE on my laptop

Part of the reason I steer to windows for main work/play PC's is due to the greater amount of support for the platform and the overall ease of use, however I've looked into various distros for the HTPC which would enable a more native "console" like experience than what I have now via it automatically opening Kodi and Kodi acting as a launcher for steam or playing YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ through the interface.

XFCE meanwhile for the laptop is to enable a familiar desktop environment light on resources (the laptop is over a decade old at this point) and efficient for when I'm at school or need the laptop for work purposes (like a presentation I'll have to give in the coming weeks).

  • Sounds good! Thank you!

  • Ah I see. I just tested by making a pretty general post/topic on the sub which showed on both kbin and Lemmy. Does this mean I've created a new community for lemmy by doing this (or at least a copy community of the one on kbin just reposting the discussions and sharing the information from one platform to the other?)

EDIT: I think I understand now and understand I didn't "create" the new community.

  • Streaming services for casual listening, but I have an archive on a home theater PC of music I use for my college radio show with each song in mp3 format.

  • I was about to say ToTK. Some of the shrines are really good physics puzzles incorporating simple machines like levers and pulleys which can be applicable outside of the game as well.

  • Superflight

Really engaging game with a short, easy to understand mechanic. It's fun just to put on and fly around for a bit every now and then.

  • NHL on Netflix might make me more inclined to subscribe, though IIRC doesn't NHL have its own streaming service or similar concept?

  • It'll be hard to get people to not only detach from something they're accustomed to, but also then attach to something unfamiliar.

I tried and am trying again with Mastodon, but a lack of users I wish to follow, a more confusing premise at times, and just overall more enjoyment overall (if that) with twitter as a platform makes it a challenge.

Lemmy however has checked all the boxes. It literally feels exactly like Reddit, and honestly like a fresh start to avoid the various decisions both Reddit admins and the community itself made along the way. I'm hoping more for the latter experience than forming when diving into the fediverse, but my above statement is most likely applicable for a wide sample of people out there.

    • Metroidvania action adventure style game so be prepared to explore and backtrack quite a bit.
    • It's tough at points. Keep on trying and you will persevere, but be prepared for some challenge along the way.
    • Upgrades matter. I haven't played in a while but one specific part of the game at least was made immensely easier when equipping the proper skillset for the job.
    • Have fun!
