  • I stand corrected.

  • Subbed to both. Thank you for sharing.

  • Here's one I like: despite the efforts of Big Oil and their orange-painted lackey, the amount of renewable energy generated in the first half of 2025 has surpassed energy generated by fossil means.

    Source.

  • Good. Now do former PM Dick Schoof of the Netherlands too. Fucking fascist lackey.

  • "Give something 110%"

Fuck no! 100% is the max. Even that is often too much to ask. Also, what's in it for me? Your appreciation huh? Well fuck you.

"I have a challenge for you".

No you don't. You have a problem and want to make it mine. Piss off.

  • If wearing hiking shoes makes you prone to foot injury, you are probably wearing the wrong hiking shoes. This would apply to running shoes as well btw, but i do not want to get too off-topic.

That being said, I switched to barefoot shoes for everyday use and for hiking a few years ago and never looked back. I do not have an opinion on barefoot being the 'best' for hiking, but I certainly prefer them over traditional hiking shoes for my use case (mostly flat, soft surface, 20-ish kilometers).

  • Same here, but for different reasons. I used to need to commute a lot, which is a lot more fun (and much quicker) on a motorcycle. When the kids were born, I wanted to find a job closer to home. Now I live a 10 minute bicycle ride from the office.

The kids have grown up now, but my motorcycle has worn out and I have not bothered to replace it.

  • I am not sure about your budget, but when I had a similar dilemma a few weeks ago, I decided to spend a bit more and eventually came up with a Denon Wi-Fi speaker. It has Bluetooth, several streaming plugins, Internet radio and even a physical audio port.

I mostly use Spotify and bluetooth for my own music collection. Spotify connect works well from within the web client. Also, the sound quality is excellent.

The price was decent, about €270.

  • Netherlands:

Country: an utter clusterfuck. After a fifteen year neoliberal government, the far right have taken over. Whereas the neoliberals broke lots of things, under the facsists, our country satgnated and it will probably take decades for us to recover. We are fucked. Sideways. With a chainsaw. Province: As far as I can tell, they try to do their best despite being fucked over by said far right. City: Right-wing mayor who actually appears do be doing a somewhat decent job. However, whenever he tries to act as a human being in a national or international context, he is being cut short by his party members.

    The outlook is not good.

  • Here's a few of my current favourites, in random order:

Amenra - A Solitary Reign Blut aus Nord - Epitome XIV Thou / Emma Ruth Rundle - Ancestral Recall Thou / ERR - the Valley Celtic Frost - A Dying God Coming into Human Flesh Zeal and Ardor - Feed the Machine Ragana / Thou - the Void Neurosis / Jarboe - Within King Woman - Boghz

  • Back in 2002 they almost voted a dead guy into office. The Dutch truly are morons.

    Source: am Dutch

  • How about Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory? Old but fun. It used to have a mod named True Combat:Elite that was a counterstrike clone which was very much fun as well, but that seems to have vanished.

I also loved the old Delta Force series and I have heard good things about the ARMA series. However, I am not sure how much ARMA will work without Steam.

  • RedHat 5.1. Man I'm old.

I also still have a Slackware 3.0 CDROM lying around. Which I actually liked back in the day.

  • First and foremost, I love the question! I have not read the bobiverse yet, but it have put it on my reading list.

A few comparable series and books (disclamer: have not read Bobiverse yet - take with a grain of salt):

    • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series. Light hearted Science Fiction by Douglas Adams.
    • Anything by Tom Holt. Dry English humor that combines SF and mythology with normal everyday corporate life.
    • Charles Stross's Atrocity Archives. I only read the first of 14-ish parts, but it is humorous, fast-paced and very wry.
    • Space Opera by Catherine Valente. Think Hitchhiker's Guide meets the Eurovision Song Contest.
    • Legends and Lattes was already mentioned. Its prequel, Bookstores and Bonedust is equally fun. The author is Travis Baldree.
  • Good choice!

  • Either Nemesis the Warlock or Planescape: Torment's 'Bones of the Night' by Mark Morris.

  • On the Dutch version of the Correspondent, there is a recent series of articles on how young people with ideals are lured into zero-impact bullshit jobs by big corporations. In case any Dutch readers are watching along: the author's name is Simon van Teutem. There's also a book by the same author with the same message, although I have not read it yet.

Although I am nearing 50, it has struck a certain nerve with me. The author puts into words a certain opinion that I have been having the last few decades in a more poignantand hopefully impactful way than I will ever be able to.

  • ... and I just ran out of bubble gum. :-)

    Duke 3D is really quotable.
