  • Wouldn't it make more sense to just have geo-based communities for that? Like 'australian-politics' or 'seattle-news'? The functionality is already there it just isn't being used.

  • Split tunneling is not a fix if I need to be in another country to stream the content that I want.

    I’ve tried Mullvad multiple times and it’s my favorite for privacy but thats secondary to getting access to the content I want. That’s a personal decision, and I’m not saying it’s the right one for everyone.

  • It wasn't an exclusionary statement. Knowing something about football doesn't mean you can't also know something about survival, budgeting, etc. Their point was that knowing anything about football is probably better than not.

    E.g. "All knowledge might be useful and should be valued as a positive thing."

  • When I used Proton or Mullvad I usually had to switch it on and off when needed because of so many issues with sites/games/etc. blocking me. However, the last deal I picked up was for NordVPN and that one I've been able to leave connected at all times without any issue.

  • I don't have any answers but I've been off reddit for ~3 years now and haven't found alternatives for a lot of the communities that I miss.

    Part of it is probably "be the change you want to see" but if you go looking, there are tons of communities that haven't had posts in years because the one person that was posting finally gave up. The most active stuff here is mostly controversial news and stuff like that. With no discovery algorithm though, I may be missing some stuff that I would otherwise be interested in because I just haven't looked for it.

  • Agreed. I stopped vaping a few years ago but the rhetoric around candy/fruit flavors was already starting. It was insane to listen to it like kids are the only things on the planet that enjoyed those flavors 🙄

  • Their Stratocaster shape is public domain in the US. They won a court case in Germany for copyright of it and immediately went after any builder selling to Germany.

    It was a total asshole scumbag move. No silver lining, just finance bros destroying a brand.
