  • Phages were studied intensively in the Soviet Union and it’s block states during the Cold War and I remember seeing documentaries on German Tv with patients tracking to tiblisi, Georgia, to receive phage therapy

  • Wonder on the impact for glas recycling.

  • I contemplate to still count calories but be more liberal with my deficit and follow up on her advice to track my emotions. That would "secure" me against uncontrolled eating while also following up on her advice on listening to my body and being less strict.

She is a registered dietician with the national dietician's organisation. and overall she didn't ring the pseudo-science alarm bell, to which I am quite sensitive.

  • Very good point.

    • Serving it on a smaller plate / bowl
    • Adding a vegetable side / salad, so that you mix bites of your favourite dish with something that fills you up.
  • Lost now up to 3kg since starting calorie counting which is great. Yesterday was an appointment with a dietician and I left with mixed feelings, she suggested dropping the calorie counting, but just keep a food diary that also would includes emotional status reporting (the aim is to bring across more self reflection and for me to learn to „listen to my body“) not sure whether I am ready to give up the control calorie counting provides though. I might just keep two food journals for now.

I think her motivation for having me stop calorie counting is that I tend to swing back and forth between phases of dietary control and the opposite so she wants me to practice moderation. I just feel tje appropriste time for moderation Training might rather be when my BMI is <25 and currently it’s >35

  • Using 5:2 (day) fasting I was fairly successful a few years ago. I think since I did 5:2 I am now in a much better place for plain calory-counting (if I used up my calories I know I will last the rest of the day without food).

Maybe I'll pick it up again at some point, potentially combined with calorie counting. on the feeding-days.

  • Roasted Chickpeas? Not sure how they score on fiber but I assume not so bad

  • I am using FatSecrets as it was recommended to me b a dietician

  • Alcohol free beer is a viable replacement, doesn’t have extra calories from alcohol

  • thx!

  • Yeah. On Mastodon it took like 3-4 rounds of Twitter insanity to bring it into a state where you could use it if you weren't just discussing Open Source software.

For Lemmy we are currently in wave 2 of Reddit insanity, but this is the first time that Lemmy is in a usable state and has available instances. So I kind of hope we have a small, moderately active community running and in the next round of Reddit insanity people who look into lemmy can actually find this community.

  • I started to substitute rice in many instances with chickpeas. Legumes themselves have protein but pair it with carbs, so I figured its actually "more effective" for my macros to not add bread/rice/pasta to a lentil/chickpeas/beans dish.

My current favourite is chickpeas in tomato sauce. I meal prep it for the week and all of the sudden chicken breast is not dry anymore.

  • I find it easier to skip a meal sometimes than to have a really light meal, so if I eat 2x per day its more filling than 3x a day by the same amount of calories.

  • Scale is stagnating, yes this is a success because the weight I lost is staying off rather coming back

  • Peeing while standing I do only at urinals. At home I sit. Of course I would also pee while standing, but the additional cleaning need is just not worth it.

  • I think for now we can do with a single post until it becomes too crowded. I will set up post creation at +0 timezone, and if it is then active for more than 24h shouldn't be relevant unless other timezones are drowned out by already upvoted European comments.

  • Still working on automatizing this so everyone feel free to just copy the post for a new date if it isn't available :-)

  • sounds great!

  • Started with 118kg two week ago, now down 2kg-2.5 kgs (depending on fluctuation).

I am essentially counting calories and running a deficit, trying to have some vegetable with every meal.
