  • 20 hours is optimistic, I have done a lot of observations on different workloads in mobile Lunar Lake on Lenovo with throttling and other tunings applied:

    • 3 watts static content with minimal CPU/GPU usage at min brightness -> 24 hours

    • 4-5 watts in code editors with some plugins and hardware acceleration / basic web browsing -> 15 hours

    • 6-8 watts on video playback (YouTube at 1080p) -> 9.5 hours

    • 10-11 watts at about 50% utilization in medium tasks like exploring the (new 2.5d) Google Maps -> 7 hours

Framework may perform better or worse. Considering Apple makes power optimizations by doing the opposite of what Framework does - they are probably worse at it. Also keep in mind that Linux support takes a while.

I’m assuming they’re talking about 720p video playback at low brightness to get 20 hours.

Also if you have battery care enabled (stops at 80%) and charge at 10% then you only really get 70% of the expected battery life.

  • is there any way of blocking links to certain sites in Lemmy?

  • I felt really bad about having a PC on all the time that consumed like 30-50 watts. Never mind I guess.

  • My parents love JFK Jr and Diana. Idk the former’s reasoning but it really is true that we love royalty

  • Still a fair amount of people who know X is a nazi bar but still use it.

    • X is too popular / addictive
    • Alternatives are considered non-viable on a recommendation and feed algorithm basis
    • There are ideological barriers to alternatives. (Lemmy is an example)
  • I think we’ve all been pretty disappointed since U-series.. finally caught up to last non-U with 8th Gen then fell behind AMD by being hotter and slower. Their only good mobile CPU so far has been Lunar Lake

  • Maybe expel the groypers while you’re at it?

  • jfc The Boys was an actual documentary.

  • It amazes me that people are talking about this garbage game in 2026. I got it for free a few years ago and couldn’t be arsed to actually play it once I realized how boring it was

  • sheeesh yeah that’ll handle 1440p. (it’s better than my PC). Btw the 7600x is the same as the 7600, so go for the cheaper one. As for the rest it looks good considering you’ll be using Linux. I would look into whether northwestrepairs worked on that GPU to determine if it will stand up to time. I know he recommends some brands as being the best and marks some to avoid entirely. Otherwise go for the cheapest memory rn - Gskill is fine I think I have that too. Also make sure your power budget is double what you’re expecting to consume in high loads due to transient spikes and etc.

  • Yep, and that reason sometimes shows up out of nowhere and you realize you’re still a dumbass and made no changes to that when you thought you did

  • The clean-room approach created a novel legal puzzle. Gergely Orosz (The Pragmatic Engineer) observed that Anthropic faces a dilemma: a Python rewrite constitutes a new creative work potentially outside DMCA reach. If Anthropic claims the AI-generated transformative rewrite infringes copyright, it could undermine their own defense in training-data copyright cases - the same argument that AI-generated outputs from copyrighted inputs constitute fair use.

The only moral justification for an AI rewrite. Love it.

  • Baldurs Gate 3. When I first saw it on the Fitgirl website I thought it was boring DnD stuff. A month ago I decided to try it out and have been hooked on it like crack.

  • What I mean is that you have no idea what bacteria is in that cheese or if the beer fridge was constantly refrigerated. If it doesn’t kill you it could still lead to an unpleasant ER visit. Not worth it over $10-20 worth of cheese.
