  • The Witcher 3 story is 1 billion times more compelling and the world is 1 billion times better even with older tech. If the game had better gameplay it would be almost perfect (for me). Hence I have high hopes for the Witcher 4.

  • Probably will be downvoted into oblivion but I’m going to disagree with you. The trans argument is a separate one but having some sex separated sports absolutely makes sense. There are undeniable biological differences physically between biological males and females. Height and weight class would make 0 sense because bone and muscle density is still different, and distributed differently as an aggregate. I think most people who say this stuff don’t actually play sports.

  • I’ve watched them a long time and I’ve probably well ascended beyond most of their “tech tips” at some point although occasionally I do still pickup something by proxy of it being put on my radar. But aside that I’ve definitely noticed some videos feeling more and more corporate or overproduced for sure. There are many videos that are clearly “we needed the money to fund x expensive project here’s a sponsor we don’t like that much but have to talk about their product”. I think it’s kind of why there’s been some long time staff leave recently. I’m kind of hoping it’ll be a bit cyclic and some new blood will make it feel jankier again.

  • MO implies there was planning this far ahead.

  • This is true although that’s what enforcing strict type checking and good linting is supposed to help with. I think it’s partially an issue that you can kinda just type what you think and not everyone thinks efficiently/ programmer-y

    Edited for clarity

  • The ensloppening of some of my favorite tools begins?

  • Man haven’t watched him in a while. I watched a lot of his Xcom 2 stuff back in the day before I could play, but I started to get pissed because it felt like watching my dad take a million years on a board game turn and make a terrible decision lmao. He’s a pretty solid YouTuber though.

  • I converted two of my friends so I’m doing my part! Just think if everyone gets two people they know to switch well be there in no time.

  • Just use something open source like Jan. Or hack together a quick gui yourself for Ollama or something

  • Exactly. If someone has already come up with an optimal solution why the hell would I reimplement it. My real problems are not with LLMs themselves but rather the sourcing of the training data and the power usage. If I could use an “ethically sourced” llm locally I’d be mostly happy. Ultimately LLMs are also only good for code specifically. Architecture or things that require a lot of thought like data pipelines I’ve found AI to be pretty garbage at when experimenting

  • Unfortunately for me I do not have the savings to do this yet.

  • An unfortunate issue with Lemmy. Seems to generally skew tech which makes sense but there isn’t as much scientific literacy necessarily.

  • Never tried F1 fantasy before but seems like it could be fun

  • I think that repetition in any form is exceedingly helpful. It probably does help to have neuronal wiring already primed for that type of routine.

  • Anecdotally I took paper notes all through college because it allowed me to retain knowledge without studying. When I tried with an iPad as a little faux experiment on myself it didn’t have the same effect. I’d argue that this issue however isn’t from the technology itself but rather how easily you can be distracted when using it. Ultimately this is something super under studied imo and something I was interested in for a while. I’d argue however that it would be better to control for mental illness or stress effects. Considering how established social media is for us Gen Z and how damaging it’s been shown for mental health (as at least one example) I’d wonder how this would affect things. After all long term cortisol exposure is bad for memory if I recall correctly. (if anyone wants source I’ll have to go dig up an old paper I wrote).

Edit: Oh also something obvious I don’t know how much it’s been studied is the short form content and attention span effect.

  • This isn’t an excuse they’re just weak. Many have authoritarian fathers or parents and come out vowing to never be like that or support that behavior.

  • I’m a data engineer but I probably dont have enough experience to warrant being looked at by companies abroad at the moment. I’m still in junior territory on paper at least.

  • I’m not in academia anymore but I’m in tech, would love to move to Europe but immigration seems pretty tough
