  • I'm all for challenging Adobe, but the journalist should ask how and why these competing products are free. What are the implications of that in the long run? I was happy to pay a reasonable price for the Affinity suite, and it becoming free actually worries me. Free isn't something a company does unless they're going to crank up the price later, or carry ads, or spy on you, or steal your creations, or lock you in, or all of the above. It's pretty shallow how the article just stops at "free is great".

  • Sounds good but $60 per month is a lot of money.

  • I agree in general about self-hosting, but backup seems like a special case. Where do you back up your self-hosted data? An offsite copy of the backup is needed, and it should be automatic. For most people (who only have one site, their home) that's not easy to arrange except through a cloud backup service.

  • I bet they still have some good devs who are continually thwarted by management.

  • "Not malware": is this the skill they call prompt engineering?

  • They're just making themselves look trashy and desperate.

What might work is making their software better than everyone else's. But that requires effort and skill and managerial competence.

  • I'd like to see people rebuild something like that inside i2p or something similar. But with modern browser fingerprinting it's very hard not to be identifiable even there, unless you take precautions most people absolutely won't do.

  • So today Iran said it was open, then Trump said it was open, then Trump said the USA was still blockading it so it was closed, then Iran said it was open but would close again because of the US blockade? And somewhere in the middle Trump might have said another time that it was open. Does anyone know what's going on?

  • They think he staged his own fake assassination, while also blaming Jews and remaining staunch Trump supporters. So just the usual incoherent cultish mumblings, not any actual insight or any movement away from him.

  • Maybe when they get another trillion dollars they'll figure out how to feed their soldiers.

  • Its hilarious to me that so many people put so much stock in fuel prices, and think The President is solely responsible for them.

In this case, the President ordering a needless war on Iran against all expert advice, and then vowing to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, not to mention all the USA's attacks on other countries and moronic isolationist trade policies over the last year, makes it more the President's fault than it usually would be.

  • Mullen, who in 2025 drew a salary of $336,518, is suspended with pay and was required to surrender his badge and gun pending the outcome of the investigation, according to a spokesperson for the department.

Fucking hell. These guys are not worth a third of that salary, even when they're working and not just on vacation as a reward for being extra shitty.

  • How about cutting off USAID and thereby causing the deaths of about 10 million people by 2030, or accelerating the pace of climate change beyond what anyone thought possible, and thereby killing life all over the planet? Those are also big achievements.

  • He's not "out of touch": he's devoted to Israel, as he has repeatedly stated throughout his career. He sees his role as being a defender of Israel from political attacks in the USA. He's not confused about this, nor does he try to hide it.

  • Or all the ones at the top, since if you go far enough there's probably something living or formerly living in each square.

Or all of them because if you can see them it's a sign you're alive.

Or just switch off the computer and walk away because you're starting to take joke Captcha memes way too seriously and you've had enough internet. Sorry. Time for a break.

  • Does "antisemitic" here mean "not approving of genocide", by any chance?

  • Shame they didn't notice that he had been a prominent and notorious conman and liar since the 1980s. And didn't notice that during his first presidency either.

  • Microsoft and Apple. The internet will only allow OSs from large American corporations.

I'd like to see the rest of the world say "fuck it" and carry on as before, leaving the Americans to censor themselves. But governments around the world are suddenly rushing to implement very similar terrible laws. It smells very coordinated.

  • Would this bill ban the use of all operating systems released before it became law? That seems unlikely.

So then how about OSs released before it became law, with patches released afterwards? That also seems unlikely.

So then how about my computer's current OS, which is a heavily patched version of a little hobby OS called Linux, originally released in 1991?
