  • The report reflects that the alerted products have, in their vast majority, an Asian origin: 80.8%. Within that block, the weight of China is decisive: 212 out of 276 national alerts originate in this country, which represents 76.8% of the total. Far behind are products of European origin (8.7%) or those whose origin could not be identified (10.1%).

How much of that imbalance is just because China makes more stuff than other countries?

  • That's quite a big downside for a phone.

  • Casio digital watches.

  • If only the prices were not so 2026y.

  • Or at least take its penis for later.

  • The macOS port, built by New York-based developer Andrey Letov using AI-assisted development workflows...

Yeah now I can see why he's unhappy with it.

  • Basically no change in 10 years then.

  • Thanks - that was interesting and informative, if a little depressing.

  • The warships should probably be in the water.

  • Maybe Linux phones are less secure but more private? With Android and iOS a lot of effort has been put into restricting what each application can do. With standard Linux that's less rigorously controlled, which is why there are security enhancements and sandboxing extras a distro can optionally add. So standard Linux may be less secure by default. But it doesn't have all the surveillance built in that the mainstream phone OSs do, so it's also by default more private.

Still, "security nightmare" sounds extreme. Wouldn't a phone running a version of Debian be comparably secure to a computer running it?

  • Everyone's shit sometimes (and some people often), which is why you always need non-shitty processes to preempt and/or catch the mistakes.

  • It's never just the developer that's the problem. There should be a system in place to catch obvious bugs like this before they get anywhere near production. So there's something not right in the company's review and testing practices. And a bug like this, if it does sneak through, should be fixed very quickly. This has been up for a while so again there's a problem with the company's processes.

  • The numbers have been remarkably stable for 10 years, given what a shitshow it has unmistakably been.

  • That's the worst apéritif I've ever heard of.

  • VPS hosting doesn't allow you to pretend to be in other countries to view their TV or sites that are censored in your country (unless you pay again for a VPS in each country). So it won't replace everything commercial VPNs do.

  • Have you not been paying attention?!

    Of course not.

  • And we didn't used to have just the two seasons, winter and everything on fire.

  • So much winning.*

    *Not necessarily for the USA.
