It seems like this concept is “orthogonal” to the current federation concept, proposed by the ActivityPub protocol.
In the proposed case, the instances act as a pure “computational and storage fabric” or some kind of a “cdn” of a service, without any “personality” incorporated in them.
So I would not say that this is “better” or “worse”. It is just another concept.
Fery strange behavior, indeed. Woy literally can't use the "All" option for the communities while monitoring the timeline because the post you are trying to read constantly goes down the screen.
By the way, users, registered on other instances still can’t see the list of communities from the link that have been shared. They can see only the one SFW community on that list. It seems, that if you want users to be able to subscribe, you should manually create a list with a list of links to the communities.
