  • Or being forced to find a headset somewhere because my hearing is shit and I can't make out what they're saying (and don't get me started on the auto-generated sub's).

Also, not having ads waved in my face on YouTube is a plus.

Also, I read a lot faster than the average youtuber talks.

Some things benefit from video, but tech articles tend to not fall under that category.

  • I've used Rockstor in the past, I liked it mostly (but in the end went with a self-configured OpenSUSE system).

Apart from that, I hear good things about OMV and TrueNAS

  • You could always add a web browser widget with a specially made dashboard loaded, not sure if there's any specific widgets.

  • Actually, you're right.

Oh well, a humanity, then, just not ours.

  • Hadn't read The Algebraist yet, so there's a new one on my list. Thanks! I'll make sure to check out Barnes, too.

  • Fun stuff, although I wonder how weather proof this would be — my door bell is outside, with nothing in terms of shielding from the elements.

I also liked the pi-as-a-travel-router, that gave me a solid idea!

  • Not just "should", the GDPR actually requires it. Not giving consent must be an easy option, not this dark pattern clickfest bullshit.

  • Iain M. Banks: we're living in an AI-regulated Utopia, but the AI that we totally trust might be doing some light imperialism on the side.

Pratchett / Baxter: we're headed for some bleak imperialist nonsense, and another one, and another one, and another one, and oops, a blank...

Edit: added the Long Earth one.

  • Enjoy that free time you regained? 😉

  • 14-year club represent.

  • I can't compare my wife's TH80 to the V-series, but I do have a K2 (not pro), and I think the Epomaker is the better built keyboard of the two. Keychrons absolutely aren't bad, and the V-series has QMK which is, to me, an absolute plus, but the Epomaker is a fine board itself.

You could always open her up and see what the thud is about, could be errant foam, could be the stab needing a bit of love. I do recall that the stabs on my wife's (then new) board required a bit of a cleanup.

  • No, that was a dress, that came later.

  • Funny, that, didn't work for me on ff/Android.

Edit: on reload, it suddenly did. 🤷‍♂️

  • I'm currently giving Karousel a go, seems like a decent step between a full on tiling wm (which isn't for me, really) and a stacking one.

  • Ohhhh, the old Lemmy termiteroo!

  • Shit, completely missed that, can someone add a red circle please.

  • With those rims and tires, and in that location, I can assure you that thing isn't for work.

  • The green wooden paneling is a dead giveaway, that's a fairly Zaanstreek thing.

  • Not OP, but I've been running TW for... 5-ush years now, I think, and it's been great. Even when I still had Nvidia hardware and sometimes ran into a kernel being too new or whatever it was that made the Nvidia driver shit the bed: roll back to the previous snapshot, wait for a couple of days. Apart from that it's been pretty much rock solid.

The only thing I might switch to, is Kalpa.

  • I've been rocking mine for close to two years now, and it just keeps getting better.
