  • Although that photo looks like the old days, when he was Lord Buckethead. He had to change the name for copyright reasons

  • I got some of those Chipolo trackers shown in the photo. So far I'm pretty disappointed. Based on the locations being reported, I'm pretty sure my phone is the only one in my city working on the Find my Device system, and even that is intermittent. For example, I've left my bike, which has a Chipolo tracker hidden on it, in public places such as a busy train station. After two days on the station platform - with goodness knows how many Android phones passing by - the bike is still showing as being at home in my garage. Like, it didn't even get logged on my own phone as I cycled to the station and left the bike and tracker there. The system really isn't up to speed yet

  • fossil fuel companies farmers

  • The oil and gas industry isn't short of money. If its workers aren't getting a share of that dirty money, I'm not sure it's entirely the government at fault

  • The problem is that the populist, nationalist right tends to be good in opposition, because they can shout simplistic slogans and don't have to actually deliver anything.

  • It's not even business - a lot of small planes are just hobbyists. So we're getting poisoned (to say nothing of the noise pollution) by people flying in circles for fun

  • VAT should be going down - it was raised from 17.5% a few years ago as an emergency measure by Cameron and Osborne. How are we even talking about it going up again when it should be the opposite?

  • They can vote. The article was saying they just can't use their veteran cards as proof of identity

  • More people driving EVs won't make (oil-based) fuel cheaper. Every person getting off oil makes producing oil-based fuels more expensive, as the economies of scale are reduced.

Go to extremes if that helps picture it: imagine you're suddenly the only person on Earth driving an ICE car. How much would you be paying for a fill-up, which now involves finding, extracting, shipping and refining fuel just for you: more than today or less than today?

  • And you don't see any link between ditching your ICE car and "Saudi Arabia quits drilling for oil"? Better to ditch your ICE car for no car, of course, but if you HAVE to have one, the smallest EV you can get away with is a step towards stopping that oil drilling. If everyone did it, that drilling would change dramatically

  • I'm not sure people in this thread get the significance of the song. If they don't remember 1997, they might simply be taking the song title literally

  • Oh, I agree. I was deliberately talking in investor terms because it's people who invest professionally who are being disingenuous here

  • Imagine owning a big share in an oil company and then being all shocked Pikachu face that they're not in any way sustainable. Just divest already

  • Yes. The "Cyclists don't use cycle lanes" line also comes right from the angry right list of grievances. If there's a cycle lane and people aren't using it, it's self-evidently not good enough. And this is hardly surprising when most cycle lanes are cheap afterthoughts that increase danger and inconvenience

  • Good. Absolutely ridiculous that this flagrant lobbying and disinformation organisation is classed as a charity

  • One of the most annoying bits is that these increases are always inflation plus a bit (eg current rate of inflation plus 3%). But... inflation is calculated using, among other things, broadband prices. So this practice guarantees that inflation will be pushed up

  • Rain Alarm! It's great, and you can customise alerts too

  • Always good to get the US perspective on an article about Amsterdam
