  • I'm going to hope this is a cultural difference, and you are roughly my parents age. However, imagining a stranger my parent's age calling me, a grown ass man with a mortgage and everything, "child" or "sweet child" is just weird. Respectfully you'd need to be at least 20 years older for that to be comfortable to me, or working at a waffle house.

Anyway we are funneling more and more wealth to the top. Reclaim that and we can all live just like my grandparents and your parents. Maybe even a bit better.

And don't worry I'm quite familiar with history. Built a career out of it myself. I just see significantly larger causes for income inequality than racial discrimination and race based exploitation alone explains.

Yes western nations even today extract wealth from poorer nations. Consumers do benefit by getting "goods". This exhange benefits the wealthy more than the consumer. I'd gladly give up cheap goods like phones or cars for affordable commodities like food, shelter, and healthcare.

I don't yearn for suburbia, I yearn to be able to live. To have a family. To not worry day to day what horrible shit my country will do only to benefit the rich.

  • My grandparents got married in the 70s my dude so maybe tone down the Jim Crow stuff before getting all the facts.

I'll never feel guilty for wanting what previous generations had when we are currently expirencing growing wealth inequality and seeing billionaires flaunting their wealth. It's a guided age and if we take that excess back we can all live better. Stop defending the rich

We have the resources, we have the technology, and we allow it to be used for the 1%

  • Maybe I dream of days when that was possible because me and my spouse work all fucking week and if we had a kid it would basically take half our income to have our kid raised by fucking strangers. Or one of us stays home for a few years until the kid is in school also costing us half our income and placing us all into abject poverty because one average wage cannot sustain a household in any semblance of comfort.

But yeah fuck me for wanting the life I literally saw my grandparents have on one income. My grandfather didn't even finish high-school and spent his whole life doing manual labor. They weren't rich, and they struggled, but they made it. If we tried to live the way they did on 1 income we'd be fucking homeless.

  • I'm clearly not talking about Victorian Estates

  • The 1950s and 60s had many of our modern conveniences and yet the standard was for 1 adult to handle the household

  • That's a rather weak argument. Rich people travel to plenty of dangerous places. Those places typically then develop high class resorts with security to attend to them

Don't mistake my comment to be saying the US is right about Cuba. It absolutely isn't. I just don't think "people travel there" is much of an indicator of anything

  • Remember housework used to be considered a job that needed a full time adult to attend to

  • Holy fuck guys we found him. It's the guy that's been going around shitting on people's robots

  • Pretty sure this is case law from like 70 years ago, but okay rant on

  • It's not an excuse just a statement of reality. A lot of crime is tied to economic stress

  • Like with most crime, there is a significant economic basis

Moat people would be way less shitty if they had access to their basic needs.

I agree there will always be a small percentage of the population that will act asocially

  • At least in the US, I'm not sure if purely textual would ever be illegal. You could likely get away with a visual depiction of the scence with current law.

  • Not that it was a capable boat in the first place, but I don't know many boats that function well upside-down.

    Kayaks self correct I suppose

  • I did not see a black person in real life until i was 16 in 2010 and traveled to Florida. And by then i had already traveled around Germany and France. I do not imagine the probability of bumping into one was higher in the 50's

I'm sorry, but I doubt this. I live in Germany myself and see several black people a day. Not usually something I track, but this conversation got me thinking so I paid extra attention during my normal commute. Germany does not collect racial demographics for obvious reasons, but France does. They've expirenced roughly a 3% increase in their black population from 2010 to today. Going from 3 to 6%.

If we assume at least a similar increase I find never real hard to believe. Like I don't really want to just call you a liar, but it's just statistically unlikely unless you avoided urban areas all that time.

Also this is an interesting read and touches on the exact solider relations I was talking about at least for Germany.

  • Vacationing lol okay, I suppose all of the civilians left when any military was around so they never saw each other, oh wait that's ridiculous.

I said the most populous countries in Europe. Germany, France, Italy and the UK all had very heavy military presence during and after the war. After is kinda key since soldiers were allowed to leave base and go to the towns.

Of course there are other European nations they were in too. Of the most populous nations they met the Soviets in Germany, but did not obviously make it to Russia. Not a majority of the Russian population but not insignificant. These troops would interact a bit during the occupation of Germany but that was limited as the cold war intensified.

In colonies you seem to forget people did travel both ways. Obviously more European based nationals traveled there, but people flowed both ways.

Btw troops were desgregated in 1948 during a period where the US was expanding military presence across most of western Europe. And even during the war do you think the battlefield was segregated? That's crazy talk

Certainly some very interesting and interpretive takes though

  • Idk maybe all the black Americans actively fighting in some of Europe's most populous countries during WW2 and the following American presence after the war.

And that's ignoring the interactions between European nations and their African colonies. I'll ignore the human zoos as well

  • What the fuck are you talking about?

My whole point was by 1950 most white people had seen a black person and that their only idea wasn't a minstrel show

  • I mean let's be real minstrel shows are explicitly a western concept, and were huge in the US. Go down another comment and I addressed the UK as well, but really that's going to apply anywhere Americans were during WW2 as well.

Anywhere that minstrel shows were popular by the 1950s most of those people would have at least seen a black person. America or otherwise.
