I see both sides. There is no good way to cognitively test either, as that could be abused as well. Age limits would help, for both voting, as well as term limits for the politicians.
That said, I believe there is far far far more wrong with the country which if fixed wouldn't even need any of the above to be significantly better.

Having any form of faith without reasoning is bad. It leads to what we currently see. You can have communities, without resorting to needing to believe in something that doesn't exist.
If you need faith, have faith in humans. The people you have to actually look at and see.
The cycle will continue then, and nothing will ever get better. You can't hope for things to get better without also putting the work forward to make those changes.
You want them to think you should exist? Then emotionally appeal to them and remind them that you're a person. This only really works on the ones you know anyways, but if no one ever steps up to teach them, then you can't expect them to ever change.
