  • It's kinda annoying how many instances there are. Lemmy isn't popular enough for each sub to have 5 or 6 segregated subs for each topic.

  • Stoner

  • Because I'm bored, I don't smoke when I have to do shit like work. But I'm never doing shit.

  • Even if some apps figure out a way to play links in app I'd be happy. Pretty sure Boost/Reddit used to be able to do that with links from redgifs. Just apply that to TikTok and shit.

  • I'm fine with lemmy, but I'm really noticing the lack of videos now. I didn't think I'd miss it so much but the porn is just pics, the dog content is just pics, no TikTok videos.

It's a big hole I hope gets filled.

  • Hotels are good if you just wanna sleep in them. AirBnB is better if you wanna chill in the house with friends. We get once once a year and cook, play games and fuck about in the house. Would be shit for 8 of us to stay in 4 hotel rooms.

  • You don't need to watch them, but the possibility to post is still better for the community. The porn side of Lemmy will be a shadow of it's former Reddit self without videos/ability to play redgifs videos in app. Then you have the dog videos, and then the TikTok videos which you might not like but it's undeniable they draw a crowd.

Thing is, with videos, which I'm assuming will come eventually, it will be the best one for me. Most social media feeds are awful, looking at you Instagram, TikTok and Reddit default app. Far too much soggested content.

  • I'd just much rather it play in app, hoping Boost is able to play links natively without having to open them.

It's all about ease of use, I don't want to click on a bunch of links, it's easier to scroll, watch, scroll. Also, I haven't even seen links to videos, video posts are wayyyyyy down.

  • Nah, lemmy is still definitely the losing option. A fraction of the content for now and you can't post videos yet, hope that changes.

  • Sure seems like it, and I see an article every other week about the self driving aspect hurting someone or getting into trouble. Just not worth the hassle.

  • So ice? Is all ice not clear where you come from?

  • I'm not referencing the fediverse, it's stupid. But also, lemmy isn't a great name so I probably just won't mention anything like that.

  • It'll be different for everyone but it's just the Reddit app the had the best layout for me, it had all the features I liked, multiple accounts, posts reliably marked as read while scrolling and then you could hide read posts whenever you want with a button (connect does it automatically so you sometimes lose posts you'd rather see again) You can choose the content type you want to see, I'd often hide albums/images so I only see GIFs/vids for... reasons.

Edit: the comment problem is already fixed in an update, I'm not dissing Connect. It's very feature rich already. I just want what I know better.

Easier OP and myself identifiers in comments, right now on Connect I'm really struggling to find my own comments in threads because I just have the same colour as everyone else. Notifications actually showed you the context when you clicked on them, with connect I'm having to click the post I got a comment on, then go and find my comment (harder without myself identifiers) and then figure out which comment was new.

It's probably just because I'm familiar with it as I'm sure a lot of Reddit 3PA's had similar features but the layout felt very readable while also being minimalist. Whatever features Connect has right now, Boost has but it's better and has more features. But I understand Connect is still pretty new. But I'm hoping Boost releases as just a port of the Reddit version with all the features already baked in because they've done it before, just changing where it loads the content from.

  • I think Greedfall was really special. A fantasy take on the American colonies is right up my alley. It was a pretty cool game with a great concept from a small studio.

I'm so glad Greedfall 2 was greenlit and I'm excited to see what Spider(?) Can do with a bigger budget. It was a bit eurojank but if they manage to make it a full open world I'll be very happy.

  • Yeah, it's an old house and I'm not paying for gigabit internet because whenever I have I've literally never gotten the advertised speeds. I'm sure it's good enough for 99% of people, I have the best internet of all my friends lol. But yeah, you won't get the full gigabit speeds through copper wires if that's what you can get from your router in other ways.

Pretty sure nowhere apart from ugly new builds and student housing really gets modern internet speeds in the UK. I got one dude who's still in the same city as me on like 10mb/s. My other friend just bought unlimited 4g because it's better than their shit WiFi.

  • Also like, how can this website survive? Server costs will grow but we're all very against ads which is why we left Reddit basically. Is lemmy just going to rely on donations?

  • Same, gonna switch to boost asap.

  • Yup, 2000 and I cannot relate with anyone even a couple years younger, we still didn't have social media till 12-14 y/o. It's so different to kids who've been online their whole lives.

  • My dad was going to buy a Tesla up until a few years ago, there's far more and better competition nowadays. And it's really seeming Tesla's are actively dangerous.

  • They're good/reliable enough that it's worth the £20-30 to try a set out. Although like another guy commented bad wall wiring can sometimes have effects if your router is really fast, I get my full 11MBps through my walls easily enough in relatively old housing.
